River gave both of us a flat look.
"What makes you think you could help?" He snarled, playing with his phone.
Jess had just casually brought up during sound check that she was going to help us become more "lovey dovey" since Jeff didn't do a very good job. River didn't seem like he was interested, but she hadn't given up yet. She was a very determined girl when she put her mind to it.
I could barely hear the conversation with us playing our instruments. Drew constantly was strumming his bass and in irregular spurts Mason would bang his drum kit like crazy.
"Because I know what doesn't work and quite frankly, whatever you guys did this morning... didn't work." She told him simply, arms crossed and leaning on one hip.
Jess could handle herself that's why I didn't try and put my two senses in. Like me, she got frustrated when River acted like he was better - who wouldn't - but instead of jumping on him and beating him up like I was known to do; she was cool headed and talked things through. But even Jess was having trouble staying calm through this conversation.
River looked Jess up and down and somehow he accepted the fact that she was right.
"Let's say you did help us out... What's your plan?" He asked sceptically, trying to act like he hadn't been defeated.
Drew and Mason who were listening intently, leaned in. Even I took a step closer because Jess had never explained this to me. Part of me knew she hadn't totally thought it through.
"Well... To make you two more convincing, you need to be seen together in public right? Like every happy couple you see in magazines are walking around, laughing, hugging and kissing just in the middle of the street." Jess explained enthusiastically. She clapped her hands and jumped up and down.
"I'm down for-"
"We're not kissing in the streets." I cut River off. That's the last thing that I wanted. He smirked and winked, making me blush and turn away from his gaze.
She rolled her eyes, nodding. "You get the point. If you want to convince people, you have to make it seem like the paparazzi are catching these intimate moments, and pretend like you aren't acting."
River still looked unsatisfied and I didn't look much better. Sure we needed help to prove like we were a couple, but Jess' plan didn't sound ingenious. It was just sort of obvious.
"Anything else?" I hoped there was.
"I was also thinking we get Twitter accounts? Ya know? All celebrities have them, so we should have them too."
This also made a lot of sense. With kids being so digital these days, the best way to get their attention was through the internet. Hundreds of people have become famous from growing fans on the web, because of music or just a funny video. The band Shatter really needed something like this to set apart from River's backup band, so this could help.
"I already have one." River replied. I could tell he was having a hard time with putting up with Jess's "plan".
"Ya I know and me too, but Alice, Drew and Mason don't and you need to tweet about us so we can be recognized."
River eyes widened a bit. "We?"
I answered his question in a harsh tone. "Shatter is my band; it's all of us or nothing. Don't forget that."
It was the truth. I was desperate to remain a band and not have a solo career. It was already hard enough proving that we were dating for all the right reasons and I was afraid that I'd start to forget the band. Drew, Mason and Jess didn't seem concerned, but I was. I was worried I'd lose myself and in return them. Yes, I know it sounded melodramatic, but I couldn't help it.
