"Swimming?" I asked dumbfounded.
This boy was all full of surprises.
"Yeah. Susan wants us to head over to my house cause apparently some paparazzi are going to be there waiting."
"Shouldn't you called the police instead of taking me to a photo shoot?" I asked sceptically.
River shrugged. He had changed into a loose fitting cotton grey t-shirt and a pair of black track pants. His usually shinning green eyes were slightly dull from exhaustion. I probably looked much worse than him.
My hair was in a makeshift bun that was slowly falling apart; I had neglected to take my make up off but had managed to remind myself to take my contacts out. I wore my thick rimmed glasses that's prescription needed to get renewed; it took some concentration to see clearly.
"Listen, this wasn't my idea. But Susan knows what's she's doing, right?"
I stared at him.
"Plus, you didn't believe me when I told you I designed my own house so now I can prove it to you..." River let the sentence trail, hoping that would finally be enough incentive to agree.
Though I had been almost asleep moments earlier, I was now wide awake.
"Isn't it a little late?" I looked down the hotel hallway, noting a security guard sitting on a chair watching us from the end.
River followed my gaze and nodded understanding.
"We'll only be gone for a little while, Susan knows and I already checked it by Jeff and the security guys...it'll be fine. I promise." River looked down at me earnestly, his green eyes wide. River Johnson didn't beg but this was as close he would get.
"Okay. I'll go." I allowed, begrudgingly.
I grabbed a sweater, just leaving on the pink pyjama shorts on and covering up my less than mature, old t-shirt. Together we made our way back down to the car where again the same hotel employee was waiting by the car.
"Fun job." I muttered to myself.
River's house was a twenty minute drive once we got on the freeway. Once more, River and I remained quiet; neither of us knowing what to say. I just sat and watched the lights and the trees fly by as we past them. Part of me wanted to tell River to slow down, just because he was famous didn't mean he was above the law. Unfortunately, the more I looked out the window, the more my eyelids started to droop.
The time on the dashboard said it was 1 o'clock in the morning, but it felt like four. Predictably I fell asleep, unconsciousness seeming like a much easier option than forcing myself to be alert any longer.
I was partially awake when we pulled into River's driveway, but the heated seat in the SUV was too intoxicating to try and wake myself up. I felt the car park and there was a moment of silence.
"Wake up sunshine." River's voiced chimed in my ear, trying to be cute.
I groaned, twisting away from him, trying to fall back into sleep.
"Oh no you don't." River breathed, jumping out of the car. There was another moment of silence after he shut his door then cool air hit my face as my door opened.
River bent over me quickly and unbuckled my seatbelt. I couldn't help but squirm as his hands slight brushed over my hip. I twisted away from him again, trying to hide the big grin on my face.
This only made River laugh.
Before I even knew it, River scooped me up into his arms and pulled me out of the car.
