Dark clouds covered the sun. The huge window curtains fluttered from a light breeze. The occasional sound of flipping pages occupied the empty room. Shelves decorated with various types of books stood firm.
The afternoon light poured through the windows onto the pages you were reading. The quiet sound of footsteps approaching reached your ears. You looked up and smiled at the freckled man standing a few feet away from you.
Juno: What is it, my dear beta?
Felix chuckled, taking a seat beside you.
Felix: Don't let Chan hear you call me that.
Juno: You are even dearer to him, though.
You flipped another page, focusing your attention back to the book in front of you.
Felix: A year ago, if someone told me I'd find Min Juno in a library, I'd laugh at them.
You sighed.
Juno: We've come a long way, haven't we?
Felix gazed at the trees outside the window.
Felix: We still have a long way to go.
Juno: That's exactly why I'm here. It feels like no matter how much I study, there's always more to learn.
Felix: That's what your council is for. You don't have to do it all alone.
Juno: But what if my council members are in danger? As their alpha, I must have their back in any situation.
Felix's eyes landed on you, his lips curved in a soft, comforting smile.
Felix: I know there isn't much time left. But trust me, you've done more than enough. Being an alpha isn't about having all the knowledge; it's about what's in here.
He places his hand above his chest.
Juno: Then let's hope I don't have cholesterol.
Felix rolled his eyes as you giggled at your own words.
Felix: I guess you haven't changed much. "Lame Joke Juno" still persists.
Deciding not to beat around the bush, you ask.
Juno: What brings you to me?
A hummingbird gathers twigs in the nook of the branches of one of the trees. Felix folds his arms on the table and rests his face on them.
Felix: I guess I wanted to ask you about Chan's accidental confession. You know, at the hospital.
You took a deep breath, exhaling the air in your lungs in an attempt to relax your pulse.
Juno: I don't think he remembers what he said in his anger. He hasn't mentioned it since.
The sound of rain pitter-pattering draws your attention. The hummingbird has settled in the branches seeking shelter.
Juno: Though he did make it clear that I'm important to him. And he...
Felix's eyes flick towards you.
Juno: He doesn't want to lose me.
Felix: What about you?
Juno: I promised him I'm not going anywhere.
Staring at your fiddling fingers, you examined your nails as if they were interesting at all.
Felix: Does it still scare you?
Juno: When did it ever stop? Funny, isn't it? The most powerful wolf to ever exist in the past decades is scared of something so... easy.
Felix: With the right person, it's a blessing. With the wrong person, it's a curse.
Juno: Even with the right person... is it ever easy?
Felix: I guess that's what brings people closer. If it were easy, anyone would do it. The challenge is to see who would do it, even if there were a thousand odds in front of them, just to be with the person they...
He didn't finish his sentence. He didn't need to.
The rain stopped as quickly as it started. The smell of the wet soil filled your nostrils as you stretched your hands above your head.
Juno: Currently, the odds are between me and my position in the council. Let's get that done first.
You leave the library with Felix, talking about things that were lighter. Lighter than the words uttered between the book-decked walls. Outside, the hummingbird went back to collecting twigs needed for its nest.
