Dear Prison Diary,
The next day I woke up from my dreamless slumber, my eyes hazy and my hair resembling a bird's nest. I sat up in my bed slowly and stretched out my body while yawning. I felt a snap in my back and it felt really good cause I hadn't woken up so peacefully in a while. My hands went to my eyes and rubbed out all the crust and grime.
I looked around the room like a zombie searching for a brain. Everything was normal. The metal walls still sent cold chills throughout my body, the cobwebs in the corner still stood strong, and the light shone from the hole in the door. Still I felt like something was strangely missing.
I peered over my bed and looked down at the bed under me. The bed was messy and unmade. Also, there was something that wasn't in it that should have been.
Violet was not there.
I shrugged and laid back down in the bed closing my eyes and pulling the sheet to my chin. I let out a long sigh and prepared to let sleep take me in again.
Suddenly my eyes cracked wide open and I shot right up in my bed breathing heavily.
"Violet's not in here!!!" I shouted out.
'Was she ate lunch hour? Did I miss lunch hour??'
I sprang out of my bed falling on the cold floor almost tripping. I ran to the hole in the door and looked out of it trying to spot Violet but I couldn't see her anywhere.
'Where has she gone? Why did she go ? Is she gone for good now or will she be coming back?'
All these questions ran through my head as I paced the room running my hands through my hair.
'Wait...shouldn't I feel happy? Violet was gone. She's not in here.' The girl who scared me half to death while getting on my nerves and also making a fool of me was gone. I should have been celebrating yet I wasn't celebrating. Why was this?
Was it that I felt lonely?
I shook the thought out of my head and walked back over to my bed. 'Great now I have no one to talk to. Hmm not that she really talked to me anyway when she was here.'
No matter, though. I would just have to entertain myself while she was gone which couldn't be too hard right?
'Don't kid yourself.' my conscience said to me
'Oh, shut up conscious! Why do you only speak when I'm doubting myself? Not when I'm oh I don't know makingna stupid decision!' I said arguing with myself.
I sighed after I finished ranting to my stupid conscience. 'This is going to be torture. I have absolutely nothing to do but think. All there was in this cell was a broken up old bunk bed and a door. That was it. What could you do in a place like this?'
I yawned once again and when I smelt my breath I knew that if Layna was here she would tell me in the nicest way possible that I needed to go brush my teeth.
"Um...Avie...not to be rude but you're breath smells real......heavy right now.....oh wait never mind sorry that was mean!!" She would say all innocent like. I would just start laughing maniacally and tell her to just be real with me because that's what family was for. Yeah and then I'd go brush my teeth.
"Oh, Layna. Sweet, caring, funny little Layna. I miss you so much and I wish I wasn't here right now. I wish I could rewind back to that night when you showed me that stupid invitation and I hadnt taken it like an idiot. I wish that never happened." I whispered into the darkness, my voice soft and calm....and smelly.
