Dear Prison Diary,
In a flash, Violet was out the door sliding by probably not wasting any time to get away from me.
I walked out of the door right on her trail picking up at the same pace. I was walking after her staring at the back of her head when I realized there was something that I had to do.
"Gotta find Layna" I muttered under my breath quietly and I was sure Violet heard me because she scoffed and shook her head.
I ignored her and my eyes began to search for my little sister. In my head, I thought it wouldn't be so hard since her hair was almost golden blonde that you couldn't miss her.
That was what I expected but in reality, it was very difficult to find her in this crowd of women with similar hair colors. I looked in front of me to see if Violet was still in front of me. Indeed, she was but there was something strange.
She stopped walking and was looking off to the side and her lips were slightly parted. Also, her eyes were furrowed in a confused way. I stopped behind her and looked in that direction and I didn't see anything strange. All I saw was the same dark metal walls and the prisoners cursing at each other arguing.
But then that's when I saw it.
High up in the corner of the room hanging down from under the metal stairs was an old century tv. It was black and rusty...and old.
Must've been dated all the way back to the 2010s.
They probably had this old tv here because we were prisoners and didn't deserve the privileges of having high-quality television simulations.
Moments later as Violet and I continued to stare at it other prisoners began to notice it and a murmur of questions sounded around the room.
Gradually we all motioned towards it. We, the whole crowd of prisoners, stepped closer and closer to this strange tv. I looked to the side of me at Violet and surprisingly she was looking at me too. I gave her an expression that said: "What the hell is going on?". She looked at me confused and shrugged then focused her attention on the tv.
"Attention all prisoners!" A loud booming voice suddenly sounded from what I assumed was a microphone.
Everyone looked around looking right and left and up at the top floors but there was no one there.
The voice was completely anonymous.
"I have..." The voice sounded again. "allowed you the privilege of television so that you can be kept up with the news involved beyond these walls." his voice said throughout the prison and the murmurs in the room grew louder and louder.
I scoffed and furrowed my eyebrows. They were letting us watch tv so we could see what was going on outside there while being stuck in prison?!
How generous. 'Thanks so much for reminding us that we will probably be stuck here forever!' I shook my head disappointingly as I said this is my head.
"We highly recommend you watch the news because this might very well be your only glimpses of what is going on outside." He said his voice deepening. There was something in his voice that made my blood run cold. I didn't know what is was but it was definitely there.
Maybe it was because I felt like there was an evil smirk plastered on his face as he said it that made me tense. The very idea of whoever this person was smirking as he was telling us that we would probably never leave sickened me.
