Mad As A Hatter

Mad as a hatter, m'lady, she is

She screams 'bout a great reckoning, she does

Screeching and sobbing, crying and trying,

Bouts of sanity lodged between these,

And there she made her home, she did.

She keeps talking 'bout them ol' nasty fingers,

Of that brother she had, she says he's bad,

Says his hands and his lips,

They were covered with poison, painting her blue,

But we all know she has no cure, so we drew.

She pulls at the belt pegging her down,

She rattles the chain that binds her limbs,

She tries to dislodge the gag with the loudest screams,

All she needs is a jolt, you see,

That'll wake her up, it will.

She's out now, living amongst us humans,

She smiles when spoken to,

Lets out a laugh that plays like music,

It is restrained, to be sure,

She used to be a wild, cackling witch before.

Ain't she a pleasant sight, now?

Doesn't threaten you through her barred teeth,

She just looks on, as if at something faraway,

Like a fire that fears its doom at the hands of a storm,

She makes herself small to get through the squall.
