The Case For An Imperfect Me

Why should I be everything
To be treated as something?
Should I always be angelic,
For light to fall on my humane side?

Why is a woman always treated as a goddess?
All she's asking is to be as imperfect as men
Do we deserve empathy and love
Only if we excel beyond expectation?

Maybe I just wanna release a sigh,
Hang my head down as someone pats me
Hear the world say, "you're there, you're enough."

I don't wanna win any battle of sexes,
I don't wanna be coronated as the 'jack of all trades'
I don't wanna be hailed as Cleopatra or Aphrodite
I don't wanna have the wisdom of Athena
Or, the hunting prowess of Artemis

I just wanna be me,
Not hailed or worshipped
But accepted and embraced.

I wanna be me,
And I want the world to understand
That being me doesn't have to be perfect or awe-inspiring.
