New Year's Eve

Waiting for the clock to strike twelve,

Again.

Creating happiness out of thin air,

Again.

Swimming in ignorance,

Blind to pain and suffering,

Again.

The New Year's here,

Time to hide all the pain

under the rug.

Something new, something too,

Something, yes, everything—maybe.

Lie through your teeth,

Display those pearls—smile.

Tomorrow's rays must fall on your glowing cheeks,

Again.

New Year's Eve, shine the lights

New Year's Eve, get lost in the melody

Maybe there's space for happiness inside,

Ask this emptiness to squeeze in,

Maybe happiness can stay a while longer,

Maybe.

Pain inside? Don't let it show,

You're their perfect, pretty little doll.

Buried anger? Contain it,

You're their calm and peaceful child.

Anguish, anxiety, fear, dread,

Sorrow, madness, you're still grieving.

They don't have to know, do they?

What difference does it make, anyway?

New Year's here, shine as bright as the new sun.
