The Soundtrack of Our Future
The clinic room was bathed in a sterile, soft light, the only sound the low, steady hum of the ultrasound machine.
When the doctor applied the cool gel to Aen's stomach, Yoongi didn't just stand nearby; he moved in closer, his hand finding hers and locking their fingers together.
His grip was firm, an anchor, and his eyes were fixed on the monitor with a focused intensity that made the doctor offer a gentle, knowing smile.
"Let's take a look," the doctor said, her voice calm and professional, cutting through the nervous tension as she adjusted the equipment.
"Are you both ready?"
Aen and Yoongi nooded in perfect unison, their breaths held.
Aen watched the screen, her heart skipping a beat as a blurry, flickering image materialized.
It was nothing more than a grayscale shape, tiny and indistinct, yet it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
Beside her, she felt Yoongi go perfectly still.
He leaned forward, his thumb tracing slow, reverent circles over her knuckles, his voice barely a whisper as he breathed out, "There you are, our little one."
Then, the doctor made a slight adjustment, turning a dial.
Suddenly, the room wasn't just quiet-it was alive.
A rapid, rhythmic 'thump-thump-thump' filled the space, a powerful, galloping cadence that seemed to vibrate through the very air.
Yoongi's eyes widened, his gaze darting between the monitor, the doctor, and finally, Aen.
As a musician, he had spent his life deconstructing sounds, manipulating beats, and finding perfection in rhythm.
But this?
This was a cadence that hit him with the force of a tidal wave.
It was a sound so raw and pure it made his entire previous life feel like a distant, monochrome memory.
He squeezed Aen's hand, his own chest hitching, his eyes shimmering with an overwhelming, uncontainable emotion.
"Strong and steady," the doctor noted, pointing to the tiny, flickering pulse on the monitor that defied the size of the shape.
"At this stage, we're mostly looking at development and growth. It's still too early to tell the gender, so that will remain a surprise for now."
Yoongi didn't take his eyes off the screen, his face softened by a mixture of wonder and fierce protectiveness.
"That's alright," he said, his voice thick, vibrating with a raw honesty.
"We've got all the time in the world to find out. As long as the baby is healthy... that's all we need."
The doctor allowed them the space to simply be for a few minutes, letting the sound of that heartbeat wash over them.
Yoongi leaned in closer to the monitor, his voice barely a breath.
"It's faster than I expected," he murmured, his thumb still rhythmically brushing her knuckles in time with the sound.
"It's perfect."
Aen let out a wet, joyful laugh, her eyes glued to the screen.
"It's the best beat you've ever produced, isn't it?"
