A Heartbeat Away from Home

When Aen woke up, she found herself on the bed inside the plane.

She remembered that after the sweet kiss they had shared, Yoongi had given her another surprise.

One of the crew members had approached them with a small, elegant birthday cake in hand.

Yoongi had taken it, holding it steady for Aen as they sang Happy Birthday to her in the quiet, dimly lit cabin. She had made a wish and blown out the candles, her heart feeling fuller than ever.

They had eaten some of the cake together, and afterward, the crew had taken it for safekeeping.

A few minutes passed and Aen felt exhaustion finally catching up to her.

She had laid her head on Yoongi's shoulder and finally fell asleep to the low, soothing sound of his humming.

He must have moved her to the bed afterward.

She turned around and found Yoongi asleep in the seat beside the bed, his head resting at an awkward angle.

She sat up and looked at him fondly.

The bed was big enough for the two of them, and yet he had chosen not to sleep beside her.

Even before they had gotten together, Yoongi had never once crossed the line when she stayed at his apartment.

Even now that they were together, she always felt respected, safe, and protected around him.

It was endearing-so different from her past relationship, where everything had felt rushed and dictated by someone else's wants.

Right now, everything was different, maybe because they were soulmates, or maybe because she and Yoongi just cherished each other equally.

When Yoongi woke up, he saw Aen looking at him fondly.

"Morning, Yoon."

Yoongi smiled at her, his voice still raspy from sleep.

"Good morning birthday girl. Did you have a good sleep?

"I did. Thank you for carrying me here."

She patted the bed beside her.

"And you? Did you sleep well? You should have just slept on the bed. It's big enough for the two of us."

Yoongi leaned closer to her and kissed her on the cheek.

"Don't worry. I slept well. Besides, I wanted you to have the space to actually rest. You've been on your feet since your shift started yesterday morning. I knew you were reaching your limit."

Aen sighed, leaning back into the pillows as she realized how right he was.

"Ohhh... Are we still far?"

Yoongi checked his watch and smiled.

"Ahh... No... We'll arrive soon."

"Really?"

Aen asked excitedly, her heart skipping a beat as she scrambled to the window.

"Yeah... look out there," Yoongi whispered, leaning over her shoulder.

"The sun is just starting to wake up. Why don't you get freshened up? I want you to be ready the second those doors open."

"Okay!" Aen replied, her exhaustion completely replaced by a rush of adrenaline.
