Civilian Status

The gates of the military training center were, as Jin had expected, gray and imposing.

But as the heavy iron barrier began to slide open, the monotony vanished.

Standing on the pavement were six figures.

Among them was Yoongi, who had been granted a short, strategic leave to be here.

He stood with his hands in his pockets, his posture relaxed-the posture of a man who had already navigated the civilian transition and was now acting as the "veteran" guide for his older brother.

Then, there was Hobi.

He was still in uniform, standing a little apart, his expression a complicated mix of longing and absolute pride.

He saluted, a sharp, playful gesture that broke into a wide, gummy grin the second Jin stepped through the gate.

Jin didn't run.

He walked with a steady, newfound grace.

He was enveloped by the collective weight of his brothers.

It wasn't the polite, guarded hugging they did for cameras; it was the bone-crushing, desperate embrace of a family that was finally starting to piece itself back together.

He looked over Yoongi's shoulder, past the sea of familiar faces, and found her.

Aen was standing a few feet back, near the black sedan, smiling with a quiet, private pride.

She was there as the anchor of the family, her presence a silent, steady support for Yoongi and the brothers, ensuring that the day stayed focused on the bond they shared rather than the chaos of the outside world."

"Hyung," Yoongi said, his voice dropping into that low, grounding tone Jin had missed.

"The 'service' is officially closed for you. You're done."

Jin looked at them-his brothers, his history, his future.

"I'm done," he repeated, the words feeling heavy and sweet on his tongue.

The party back at the Hannam suite was exactly what Jin needed.

No press, no PR teams, no schedule.

It was just pizza boxes stacked precariously on the kitchen island, half-empty bottles of wine, and the sound of seven men-laughing so hard they couldn't catch their breath.

Aen, on the other hand, was just smiling as she watched them, a quiet sense of contentment settling over her.

Meanwhile, Yoongi-who had been the primary architect of this homecoming while still navigating the final months of his own service-was acting as the bartender, meticulously pouring a drink for his brother.

"To Kim Seokjin," Yoongi announced, raising his glass, his eyes bright.

"The man who spent the last eighteen months teaching recruits how to be better humans. May you never wear a regulation uniform again."

The room erupted.

Jin sat at the head of the table, his shoulders finally dropping from the tension they'd held for months.

He wasn't the 'Worldwide Handsome' idol or the 'Soldier'-he was just Jin, the eldest brother finally back where he belonged.

He let his gaze drift to Aen.

She was still sitting quietly, just watching the chaos with a soft, steady smile, her hand resting near Yoongi's on the table.

When Yoongi turned to her, their eyes locked for a heartbeat-a silent, knowing look that spoke volumes of everything they'd weathered together over the last few months.

Jin could see the relief in them, the quiet strength of two people who had stood by each other through the long wait.

They had been the heart of everything while he was gone, and seeing them like this, finally settling into their own life, made the reality of his freedom sink in even deeper.

"You look like you're already planning the next step, Hyung," Jung Kook noted, leaning over to steal a piece of crust from Jin's plate.

"Just thinking," Jin said, his voice low.

"How quiet it is. How free it is."

He looked at the group-Hobi, who was still serving but smiling as if he were already home; the others who had been waiting for this moment.

"Don't get too philosophical on us, Hyung," Namjoon laughed, nudging Jin's shoulder.

"We still have to decide who's driving you to the spa tomorrow. You're a civilian now; you have to embrace the luxury."

"I'm driving!" Jimin chimed in, grabbing a slice of pizza.

"I want to see Hyung try to navigate civilian traffic again. It's going to be a disaster."

"Hey! I've been driving for years," Jin protested, feigning offense, though his smile betrayed him.

Taehyung leaned back in his chair, watching them all with a contented expression.

"It doesn't matter who drives. The point is, we're all here. For the first time in what feels like forever, we're all just... here."

Hobi nodded, his eyes bright as he looked around the room.

"I'm counting down the days until I get to trade this uniform for sweatpants, too. But seeing you like this, Hyung? It's enough for today."

Aen, who had been listening with a soft smile, finally spoke up, her voice cutting through the playful bickering.

"Actually, none of you are driving."

The room went quiet as all eyes turned to her.

She looked at Jin, a spark of secret amusement in her eyes.

"Yoongi and I booked a private spa retreat for you as a homecoming gift, Jin-Hyung. It's for tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM. A private car is already arranged to pick you all up."

Jin's jaw dropped in mock surprise.

"All of us?"

Yoongi chuckled, leaning back and resting an arm along the back of Aen's chair.

"We know you won't want to go alone, Hyung. Aen and I have work in the morning, so you'll have to let the others spoil you for the day."

Aen nodded in agreement.

"Everything is handled-the reservation, the lunch, the works. It's from both of us. Consider it your re-introduction to the luxury of doing absolutely nothing."

Jin looked from Yoongi to Aen, his initial shock melting into a wide, genuine grin.

He knew how busy they both were, especially with the upcoming wedding preparations.

"You two are the best," he said, holding his wine glass up toward them.

"Truly."

"You better enjoy it, Hyung," Jungkook laughed, already reaching for his phone to check the schedule.

"Because we are absolutely going to make sure you don't lift a finger."

"I think," Jin said, feeling the weight of the last eighteen months finally dissolve into the warm, familiar chaos of his brothers,

"I'm going to like this civilian life just fine."
