*****Cooper's Point of View*****

"I have some news Cooper." The doctor said firmly.

"Okay" I said nervously, pulling myself up. I mentally prepared myself for the worst.

"Next Saturday you get to leave the hospital. For the day." he said.

"What?!" I asked.

"Rhett and Link are taking you out. For the day." The doctor said. He had a smile on his face now.

"Really? Really really? Really really really?" I asked.

"Yep, really." The doctor said. "And I'm excited for you, but you need to understand, for this to happen, there's a lot of planning and preparation that goes into it. We need to talk about it."

"Okay" I said.

The doctor began rattling off the things that could happen, and what I had to do. He handed me a medical bracelet.

"You need to wear this at all times. It has my number on it. If anything goes wrong, they need to contact me. You getting all this?"

"Wear the bracelet at all times" I repeated.

"Yes." The doctor said.

He went on for a good half hour. I probably should've taken some notes. But I understood what he was saying. Don't pick up anything heavy. Don't push yourself. If you're feeling sick, come back. If you're tired, take a break. Basically just be the neediest person on the planet.

"Cooper, you have to follow these rules, okay? I know that it would be heartbreaking to come back here early, but it would be even more heartbreaking if something happened, and had to come back for your 2 month break." The doctor said.

"Yeah. I've got it." I said, sighing.

"Alright Coop. I'll come back on Friday just to check that you're alright to go out. If you're really sick on Friday, you probably won't be going. Just, manage your expectations."

"I understand" I mumbled. I hated being sick.

"I'm going to be having a very similar conversation with Rhett and Link tomorrow, so they'll know as well."

"Well, I guess that's good." I said.

"Bye Cooper. See you soon."

The doctor left and I was left to myself. My iPad was charging over on the other side of the room, so I couldn't touch it. I picked at the stickers on the frame of the bed until I fell asleep.

*********

"Coopy. Coopy, baby wake up."

I groaned and stretched by arm up. Nobody had called me Coopy since...

"Hi Uncle Randy."

"Hey Coopy." He said. "Are you going to open your eyes?"

I yawned. "Nope."

"Why not?"

"Because I want to go back to sleep."

I groaned again and opened my eyes. There was no way I was going to get back to sleep. Not while people were talking to me.

"Hi" I said.

"How are you feeling?"

"Fine. Yeah. Tired. Sick. Wanted to stay asleep."

"Sorry for waking you up Coopy."

You should be.

"It's fine" I croaked, blinking the sleep out of my eyes.

"Good Mythical Morning" he said randomly.

"What?"

"Your poster" He said, gesturing to the wall.

"Oh, yeah, that." I said. "It's an internet show."

"Sounds cool."

"Yeah it is. I actually got to meet them. It was the greatest ever." I said, smiling at the memory.

"Who organised that?" he asked.

"The make-a-wish foundation" I said awkwardly.

Uncle Randy sighed and ran his fingers through his auburn hair. "I didn't know you had a wish."

"Yeah I did. I got to meet Rhett and Link. They're so awesome. I actually got permission to go and leave the hospital next Saturday to go and spend the day with them!" I said excitedly.

"No, that's not happening."

"Yes...it is." I said, a little confused.

"Cooper, you're sick. I don't want you leaving this place unless you're with someone who knows how to take care of you."

"They do. I do." I said firmly.

"Cooper, if you pass out, then you can't do anything."

"Well, they can."

"Cooper. You're staying here. That's the end of it."

"No, you're not the boss of me!" I shouted a little too loudly.

"I'm your legal guardian, Cooper."

"No! No! No! This isn't happening!" I exclaimed

"What?"

"You just can't walk in here after not even TRYING to contact me for the past 5 years and start bossing me around! I don't know you at all! You're a stranger! I don't have to listen to you!" I shouted, tearing up.

"Yes you do Cooper! I'm only trying to help you!" Uncle Randy shouted back.

"BY MAKING THE LAST MONTHS OF MY LIFE MISERABLE!?" I asked.

"Dammit Cooper! I'm trying to make sure that these aren't the last months of your life!" Uncle Randy said.

Nurse Genella burst in the doors. I was crying uncontrollably on the bed, and Uncle Randy just looked really...not mad, but frustrated. And disappointed.

"Wait outside." Nurse Genella told him coldly. He nodded awkwardly and left. Thank goodness for that.

"Thank you" I croaked. Nurse Genella sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Coop, don't worry. It's still going to happen."

"But...he's my guardian...he can stop it" I sobbed.

"No. He's not your guardian yet. Your case is very complicated Cooper. They're looking at other candidates." Nurse Genella said.

"Oh" I said, wiping my tears.

"It's okay. I'm going to go and talk to him now. Explain the careful planning and the benefits of this trip. I'll be back in a few hours."

I nodded. "Thank you" I said quietly.

"No problem Coop."
