It was the big day.

The day we'd been preparing for, for weeks. It was finally here. We'd made it. I was mostly grateful as I walked inside, grateful that I'd actually managed to make it to this point. I was here, I was healthy, and I was ready to skate.

Ruben was standing beside me, smiling every now and then, and we were both just looking around the venue in awe. There were seemingly thousands of skaters here, and almost the same amount of stalls selling loads of different skateboarding stuff. Ruben and I headed over to registration, and they ticked our names off, giving us numbers to wear on our shirts.

Rhett was smiling, and Link was too. Everyone had showed up to see the big event. Especially since this was the last chance I'd get to skate. Probably ever.

I tried not to think about that too much. Today was more important than that.

Ruben and I walked around for a while, grabbing something to eat, and looking at all the shops and stuff. I bought some stickers, and Ruben bought me a shirt, which was unexpected, but a nice surprise.

We sat down with everyone else to watch the other events, and we both just grinned and applauded as all the professionals did all their tricks. I took a few videos to watch later.

Then we got to the junior events. Ruben and I grabbed our boards and headed to the preparation area, where we had a few turns on the bowl to practice, before heading down to the waiting area. There were about 10 pairs, all ready to perform. I giggled excitedly and put my helmet on.

"You ready Coops?"

"Always Rubes."

We hugged, before heading out into the rink. I could see Rhett and Link both cheering for me, and we both set up in our starting positions.

Like a well-oiled machine, we skated. Perfectly in sync, perfectly in time. We'd done so much practice that it was almost impossible not to do it perfectly. I kept my eyes on the prize, and put everything into it. We'd even worked in the really hard tricks into there, some of the ones that the professionals hadn't been making earlier in the day.

It was amazing.

When we came off, we high-fived, and laughed.

"You did awesome!"

"You did too!"

We both smiled.

We headed to the stands and sat with Rhett and Link, who were both high-fiving us. "You guys were awesome!"

"Thanks." I giggled, sitting down.

"Can you teach me how to do that?" Locke asked. "This is awesome!"

I smiled. "Sure."

He grinned.

We watched the rest of the competition and the rest before it was time to present the winners. They called Ruben and I onto a stage with all the other couples, and awarded the prizes. We didn't come third, or second. No.

"And the winner of the Couple's Skate is Cooper Greene and Ruben Jakensnek!"

Rhett and Link went crazy, clapping and cheering. Rhett took a photo of us as we went up and got our trophies.

It sure was one hell of a way to finish a break from treatment.
