***** Cooper's Point of View *****
"You're back! It feel like I haven't seen you in forever."
I chuckled awkwardly as I skated over. "Yeah, it feels like that."
"Where'd you go?" Reuben asked.
"I, um, family stuff..." I mumbled.
"Oh..." He replied nervously, worrying if he'd pryed too much.
I tried to shake it off and smiled. "What've you been working on?"
He grinned. "The full cab is completely down pat. Now I've just been doing a lot of grinding."
I smiled. "I love grinding."
Reuben took off and grinded down the metal rail of the skate park. "It's awesome. It scratches the artwork on the bottom of the board up pretty back though."
I nodded, flipping my board over and glancing at the badly-scratched art. "It's fun though."
Reuben smiled. "It sure is."
I skated towards the metal ramp and did a slight jump, before grinding down it till the end. I smiled as I landed it and skated back to Reuben.
"So, anything else you've been doing?"
"The McTwist." He grinned.
"Really? Isn't that really hard though?"
He nodded. "It's a 540 degree spin. I'm slowly getting the hang of it though. I did graze my knee up pretty badly."
"I had a go at it before I went into hosp-"
I clamped my hands over my mouth once I realised what I was saying.
"Hospital?" Reuben asked.
"I, um, had my appendix out!" I blurted out as a cover up.
"O-kay then." He replied, a little unexpecting of my loud enthusiasm for the medical procedure. "Did you get it?"
I shook my head. "Nope, grazed my leg up really bad. Doctor's said it was a miracle I didn't break it. I'd like to give it another go though."
He skated over to the edge of the bowl. "Are you sure? If you hurt yourself badly the first time..."
"I'm older and a hell of a lot better now." I retaliated. "I should be good."
Reuben shrugged. "I'll go first. Show you how it's done."
I chuckled and folded my arms. "Go on then, show me how it's done."
He took off, going up and down to build up momentum, until he finally did the McTwist. 540 degrees of awesomeness. He landed it, too, which was awesome.
"Nice! I didn't think you'd make it."
He grinned. "Me neither to be honest. Your turn."
I went down the bowl and went around a few times in the same way to build up momentum. I jumped, and flipped the skateboard over, doing my best to make sure that I made it the entire 540 degrees before put my feet back on the board and landed it with a slight jolt.
"Woo! You did it!" Reuben cheered.
I grinned and skated back up to him. "Yep. I did."
His watched beeped. "Uh oh. Gotta go home."
I shrugged. "It's cool. See you tomorrow?"
He nodded. "Before we go, want to, uh, swap phone numbers? I can text you and stuff when I'm not going to be here."
