***** Rhett's Point of View *****

I think we were all surprised at how quickly the treatment sucked the life out of our Cooper.

She tried to put on a brave face when we were there, and always tried to tell us that it wasn't that bad, and she was feeling good enough to have visitors and stuff. She never was. Even on the days were she did have visitors, I had to keep a close eye on her to make sure she was okay.

That was a strange term. Overall, Cooper wasn't okay. They did a scan and found the tumour growth to be continuing ridiculously, and there was a new one down near her neck that was the one that was going to kill her. It was inoperable, and being away from treatment had given it heaps of time to grow and develop. Yet, we used the term 'okay' to describe when she was feeling better, when had enough energy to talk to people. That kind of 'okay'.

I'd done a lot of research on her condition, and I almost knew as much as the doctors myself. I began to understand all the different medications, which ones worked, which ones didn't. And whenever she'd have a really bad headache or be in pain, I'd work with the medical team to make sure she was better as soon as humanly possible.

I was sitting by her hospital bed, quietly tapping out an email from my laptop. I came for a few hours every day, but she didn't like me here all the time. She felt bad when I sat here while she slept. I was working remotely, something I'd gotten better at over the past few weeks since Cooper had been admitted. Being here was taking a lot of time away from me at the office, but I needed to be here, so I just brought my laptop with me most days.

"R-Rhett?"

I glanced up from my screen and folded the lid down before moving it off my lap. "How are you feeling Super-Cooper?"

She murmured something I couldn't quite catch before rubbing her neck, wincing in pain.

I frowned and fetched another pillow. "Here, this should help."

"Thanks." She murmured.

I had kept Cooper out of the loop of all the medical stuff. She was too worried, too sick. She had enough on her plate to deal with besides the fact that there was a tumour growing there.

"Do you want some water?" I offered.

"N-No thanks." She whispered, resting her head back down. "H-How did Shep go with h-his school play?"

"Oh, he did great. He wanted to show you the DVD when you're feeling a bit better."

"Oh, o-okay." She murmured.

"Do you just want to go to sleep?"

She nodded slightly and pulled her blanket up. I got up to turn the light off, and by the time I got back to my laptop, she was asleep again.

I sighed softly and gently rubbed her shoulder. "I love you, Super-Cooper. And I know you can get through this."
