*****Rhett's Point of View*****
Link and I sped to the hospital as fast as we possibly could. I mean, Cooper had gotten a concussion! How on earth did that happen!?
We reached the building and walked inside. The doctor led us to her bed, which was in a shared room this time because she was only staying the night. We hoped.
"Hey Super-Cooper" I said quietly as I sat down next to her bed. She had curled up and fallen asleep, like she usually does, but this time it was because she was injured.
"How'd this happen Randy?" Link asked.
Uncle Randy gulped. "We were walking up the stairs and her hands lost their grip and I couldn't get to her in time and, and, and..." He spluttered, obviously upset.
"Yeah, Cooper doesn't really do stairs." I said.
"Agreed." Link and Randy murmured.
"What'd the doctor say?" I asked.
"Middle of the range concussion, going to keep her here overnight for observation to make sure she doesn't have a bleed in her head, because that could be fatal." Uncle Randy sighed, sitting down on the chair next to me.
"Before she fell asleep, how was she?" Link asked.
"Really out of it. Didn't remember anything that happened today. Short term amnesia. It was almost like she was a little sedated, which she wasn't, just to clarify. She did throw up her lunch though." Randy explained.
"She threw up her breakfast too, we should probably tell the doctor that she hasn't really eaten anything today." I said.
Link nodded and left the room to find the doctor. I sighed and looked at Cooper. I couldn't believe she was back here so soon. Poor Coop.
"They'll feed her when they're certain she doesn't have a bleed." Link said, coming back into the room. "In the chance that they'll have to operate, it's better she doesn't have anything in her stomach."
"I'm the worst uncle ever." Randy mumbled. "Can't even look after her for a whole hour."
"Hey, it wasn't your fault." I said, patting his shoulder.
"Well, nothing happened to her when she was with you guys." Randy admitted. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "It's probably better that she's with you."
"She cares about you, you know. She was the one who suggested that she come over all the time." Link said, sitting down on the third chair.
"Thanks guys." Randy sighed. "I know I come across as the bad guy, the fun police, but I'm just trying to keep her safe, you know?"
"Yeah, we all just want what's best for her." Link nodded.
"It's hard because she wants to be able to do all the things she used to before she was admitted, but her body can't keep up." I said. "She gave me a bucket list, and man, I don't know what to do."
"Isn't that a little cliche?" Link asked.
"Well, in order to mix it up we called it a cheese sandwich list."
Link laughed and I grabbed my phone. "She wants to skateboard, roller skate, go to a concert, fire a gun, leave the state and go back to school."
"Why would she want to go back to school?" Link asked.
"I think she wants to see her old friends one last time." I said sadly.
"Oh. Well, that makes sense."
"Randy," I asked, "Do you know why she wants to leave the state? Because I thought about it, but I can't think of a motive."
"I can't say anything from recent years, but I know that her dad, my brother, had a serious gambling problem. He'd try and save up to let them go on holiday, but he always gambled their savings away. I don't think she's ever been out of California."
