"So you got a wish!" Nurse Genella said excitedly, looking down at the envelope.

"Yeah, I did" I said.

Nurse Genella squeezed my shoulders. "This is so exciting! What are you going to wish for?"

"I don't know." I said honestly.

Nurse Genella opened the envelope and pulled out a few sheets of paper. She scanned over them. "Do you want to read them or do you want me to read them to you?" she asked.

"I can do it" I said, reaching for the paper. I began reading.

"Dear Cooper. Congratulations! You've received a wish! You can use this wish to wish for anything you want! It could be to go to a place you've never been, or to meet a celebrity you look up to. You can wish for practically anything! When you've decided, simply write your wish on the enclosed envelope and give it to one of your nurses. We'll do our best to make your wish come true. Sincerely, the make a wish foundation."

"I'm so excited for you!" Nurse Genella said. She seemed to be bubbling with excitement. I didn't really understand why, I mean, the wish was for me, not her.

"Uh, cool" I said, not sure what to say.

Nurse Genella packed the papers away and put it over on the side table next to my wilted flowers. I refused to let anyone take them away just yet.

"AH!"

It took me a second to realise that voice was my own.

"AH! AH! AH! AH! AH! AH! OWWWW!!!"

I moved my hands up to my temples. I had a constant headache, I will acknowledge that. But every now and then, it kicked up a notch and caused unbearable pain.

"You okay Coop?"

I kicked my legs as I tried to deal with the horrible pain. It was throbbing, and it was intense.

"AH! OWWW!!! OWWWWWWW!!!"

Nurse Genella sat on the edge of my bed and gently patted my back. I burst into tears. The pain was killing me.

"Shh... Cooper, it's okay..."

"NO IT'S NOT OKAY! IT HURTS!"

"I know. I know it hurts. Take a deep breath. In, and out. In, and out. See, there you go."

I breathed a few times, and it helped a little bit. Not a lot, but a little bit. Nurse Genella quietly soothed me as I cried. This is why I hated being sick.

Nurse Genella called for another nurse, and asked her to grab some sort of medication. I didn't really understand the names. They were all ridiculously long.

The nurse brought the drip back and Nurse Genella placed it on the stand and hooked the end up to my port. That's right, I have a permanent port for drips. Well, not permanent, but permanent enough. I liked being unattached, but that wasn't happening.

It was almost an hour before the pain subsided to a dull ache, which I was used to.

"All better now?" Nurse Genella asked.

I nodded silently.

"Thanks for not leaving me."

"No problem sweetie. It's my job to take care of you."

I blushed and Nurse Genella laughed. "I'll come back in a few hours to check your vitals again."

Nurse Genella left and I reached for the envelope, only to accidently knock it to the ground. I cursed my useless hands. I sighed and turned to the window, where I saw a sudden flash of light in the night sky. A shooting star.

"I wish I was better" I mumbled, before rolling over and going to sleep.
