***** Rhett's Point of View *****
We thought she was doing better, but after Thanksgiving, Cooper really took a turn for the worst.
It seemed we were back at the emergency room or calling an ambulance every second day. After about 2 weeks, Dr Anderson approached us with a grim expression.
Link and I already knew what he was going to say before he even said it.
"It's time, guys."
Telling Cooper that she was going to have to move back into the hospital was something that nobody really wanted to do. And when we finally did it, she cried. She begged us, pleaded for it not to happen, so she could stay here in the house that she had come to call home.
But we had no other option. Cooper was, well, dying.
She could hardly walk anymore, plus she hardly ate, and slept at least 20 hours of the day. She would forget things, too. One day she couldn't remember Shepherd's name and started calling him Blondie.
There was just nothing else we could do for her. And as much as that broke my heart, and as much as that made me want to scream and shout and kick down doors and snap pencils and scream, there was nothing left that we could do.
It was December 1st when we took her back to the hospital. We decorated her room in Christmas décor while she was asleep. We went and got a proper tree and everything, and lined the walls in Christmas lights to make it seem more homely.
"Do you think she'll like it?" Link asked me.
"Of course she will." I responded. "It's Christmas. We can't just leave the room so plain when it's Christmas."
Link nodded. "Yeah, I guess so. It looks really good."
"Yeah, I think so too." I smiled.
The heart-rate monitor in the moment had a brief spike, and we both just glanced over to check on her. She was still sleeping soundly, but had a small smile on her face.
"Must be a good dream." Link chuckled.
I nodded in agreement. "What do you think she might be dreaming about?"
"Not really sure, it could be anything really."
I sat down on the chair, taking in the ambience of the room. "Maybe she's dreaming about Christmas."
Link shrugged slightly. "Maybe. Maybe she's dreaming about Imagine Dragons."
"Or skateboarding." I added.
"Reuben, too. And all her friends."
We started throwing out more ideas.
"Going to Vegas."
"Being better."
"Seeing her family again."
"Her birthday at Disneyland."
"Ice cream with me."
I just laughed at that one.
We brainstormed until Cooper woke up. We had to ask.
"What were you dreaming about?" Link rushed.
"Huh?" She answered sleepily, rubbing her neck.
"Dreaming. You looked like you were having a good dream."
She blinked a couple of times, before smiling ever-so slightly. "It was about you guys. And spending time with you. We were in a field of pancakes. It was great."
I smiled back. "Sounds delicious."
"It was. And it was all the better being there with you."
Sorry about the short chapter + lack of updates, but I'm almost finished this book so yay :). Thank you all for your support, it means the world to me.
Stay safe and make good choices,
