What Life Stole From Me

Chapter Forty-Three

Esteban's doctor received us immediately when we got to the hospital.
"My husband. Doctor please." I cried to Doctor Williams.

He said nothing,as His attention was on Es,they peeled me off and took him into a room and locked it.
I cried and wailed against Simon's chest for hours.

After six hours,the news had travelled everywhere. Esteban's family were on their way,I also called my parents,I needed them.
Jake and Maya were already in the hospital with me.

I was sitting by the waiting area when I caught sight of Dr. Williams,I got up hastily when I heard Jake warned, "Easy baby girl." I didnt even listen.

"Dr. Williams,My husband,where is my husband?" I cried.

"Mrs Alcaraz please calm down. We are doing all we can. He is awake now,but I'm afraid.. He is running out of time."

"What do you mean running out of time? He is a good man,He has been doing a lot of good things,should that have healed Him by now? Humanity? What kind of a cruel world do we live in?" I sobbed. Jake caught me.

I heard Dr. Williams say something about a new improvement on the ailment due to some deep research,He made mention of surgery,a heart transplant,a doctor from Philadelphia,but the chances of success were slim. I heard Simon ask Him to fly in the doctor immediately.

I sprinted to the room were Esteban was,and He was lying on the bed,looking so pale.
My heart dropped and broke into a million pieces at the sight.

I hugged Him and He tried to retaliate.
"You'll be alright Es. I promise." I cried.

Simon explained to Esteban about the surgery and surgeon.

After Six days,the surgeon had come and explained all the conditions to us.
He made Esteban's parents understand that Esteban had very little time left,and the transplant was not a guaranteed success either,it was a chance everyone was willing to take.

The surgery was scheduled in two days.
Esteban looked so pale and tired.
"You have tried Es. You have fought enough,now its time for us to save you. We will save you." I cried,and He held my hand.

"I'm not scared,Muff. I'm ready. I have all A man could ever dream of. I'm happy. Please loosen up."

On the day of the surgery,I was left alone with Him.
I took His hands and sobbed.
"You are everything I have Es. You have to fight,please Es,we can win,I promise you we can win."

I sobbed uncontrollably as Es tried to calm me down.
"Hey,Hey baby look at me... We will win. Okay? I promise You this." I saw tears slid down his temples.

I got up and kissed him so fiercely and my nerves got cold from the sensation I had.

"This cant be the last time. This cant be the end of our story. It cant end here,not this way." I said,shaking my head.

I cried my eyes out before the doctors took Es away.
He held out His hand and I kissed it endlessly,repeatedly telling each other 'I love you.'

Everyone tried hard to keep a brave face but when Esteban was being pushed to the theatre room,the hospital turned into an emotional mess.

I paced the hospital tirelessly waiting for Esteban to get out of the surgery.

My heart was already shattered in million pieces. I couldn't fathom out the pain,but I didn't care,I only needed to see Esteban's face again.
