Joe had a smile on his face as he entered the police station where all the officers were desks being scattered around the room but the captain had his own office. He was glad to be back at work but everyone was applauding him for his brave actions nearly a month ago. It had been a long time for him to recover but he thought he was finally ready. Again he wouldn't be able to go out on patrol but as long as he wasn't sat at home doing nothing. He thanked everyone as the settled down Joe taking his seat, he still got tired a little bit if he worked hard but that would just mean he'd have to have early nights and maybe take some time off. His boss didn't want to rush into it, just to take his time until he was sure he was ready.
"It's good to have you back Jonas." He heard looking around seeing the Captain stood there but he pulled a chair up sitting down next to him.
"Thanks, it's good to be back." Joe admitted pushing the keyboard back so he could rest his arms down, he knew he'd be at his desk for a while.
"The mayor wants to give you a bravery reward, are you up for it?"
"Yeah but he doesn't have to, I was only doing my job. I had a young mother and five year old boy to think about." Joe shrugged his shoulders. He hoped he could see Demi soon in the near future so she could know that he was okay. She was the one who was trying to get him medical attention when he was bleeding out on the floor.
"It's something a lot of officers get in their career, just take it and hang it up with pride." Joe smiled nodding his head gently.
"I will but to be honest I just don't like getting a lot of attention." Joe admitted thanking someone as they set a coffee down in front of him, it was one of the interns that often make coffees for the officers. Joe took a sip before setting it back down.
"There won't be any reporters or anything, someone will take your picture but that's it. If you don't want fuss I'll make sure you don't."
"Thanks." Joe smiled up at him. He was happy to be at work but he couldn't help but stare down where he knew a new carpet had been laid after his blood had stained the last. He knew he was lucky to even be alive never mind at work.
Demi entered the house after picking Kean up from kindergarten. She followed him into the living room where he gave Willa a hug. She smiled as he got down on the floor beginning to play with his best friend. Carter and Kean had no choice but to become friends with Demi and Willa being friends for such a long time.
"Can you just look after Kean while I go to the station, I got a parking ticket which is stupid because I wasn't on the yellow lines!" Willa questioned.
"Sure but are you sure you're not making this up so you can go see the hot police officer?" Willa smirked slightly up at her best friend.
"I wish," Demi mumbled. "I think he's dead Willa, it would be a miracle if he survived that after an hour." She spoke low not wanting the boys to hear them, they were playing with some cars on the rug they had that laid out a town.
"Just stay positive Demi, he would have plenty of time off work after something like that which is why he wouldn't be there." Willa answered.
"I guess so, I won't be long anyway." Demi answered leaning down kissing Kean's head then giving Carter a kiss too. He was like her own son.
"Bye Auntie Demi." Demi smiled blowing him another kiss. She said goodbye again before heading back out. She prayed the man made it through the horrible ordeal, she honestly didn't know if she and Kean would be here without him.
