"You're not insane Joe," Harvey stated as Emily grabbed him sitting back on the seat taking hold of his hand. She was even more worried about him now she knew what it was. She had heard of it before and knew how stressful it could get for him. He was her best friend though and always would be no matter what he would be going through. "Is there just one personality at the moment?"
"Wait there will be more?" Joe questioned.
"More than likely, you could have up to one hundred but most people just develop less than half of that. Around twenty." He explained.
"At the moment we only know of Matt, how do we know if there will be more?" Emily questioned, she had loads of questions to ask that she knew Joe wouldn't think about.
"It will be pretty clear because his actions won't be the same as himself or even Matt, he could become a child or a teenager. He could even act as if he was a female." He explained.
"Can I cure this or am I stuck with this for the rest of my life?" Joe asked the question he wanted to know more than anything.
"There is no cure but there is medication which will help and having therapy sessions will too, are you free tomorrow because I'd like us to start these sessions straight away?" He questioned.
"I guess I can be, I don't think I'll be working anymore." Joe mumbled.
"What is your career?"
"Police officer." Joe answered, it was what he always wanted to do, he couldn't remember much about his childhood but he knew the police officers were involved a lot with helping him out and get out of the situation. It's why he wanted to become one.
"There is a police officer in another state with the same condition as you, it's clever how he works because some personalities are better at certain jobs so one comes up when he's doing a high speed chase and another when he's questioning someone. I wouldn't worry about it too much but you could be working soon when we know definitely what's going on." It did give Joe some hope that he could go back to work one dad, he's miss that time he has alone but at the moment it felt like he was never alone.
Joe and Emily got their answers and booked Joe an appointment in the hospital's counselling ward for the following day before they left the room meeting with Demi who still had Elliot on her lap playing with one of his toys as Demi watched him but she looked up when they saw them approach her. Elliot squealed when he saw his father reaching up for him.
"Hey El." Joe breathed kissing his head gently as he held him against his hip. Emily took hold of the car seat Demi keeping the bag as they headed towards Emily's car. Joe had taken the taxi not sure if he was well enough to drive and Demi had walked because it wasn't too far, she didn't use the car unless she really had to.
"I remember learning about multiple personality disorder at school." Demi admitted once Emily had told her what had happened. Joe was sat in the back with Elliot but he could hear the conversation, he didn't mind Demi knowing but he did feel a little ashamed of what he had.
"What's happening now then?" Demi inquired.
"He's going to therapy sessions three times a week to start off with and he has medication to help with the depression and anxiety." Emily explained Demi turning to face Joe who looked over at her when he noticed.
"You okay?" She inquired not surprised when he shook his head.
"I'm scared." He admitted.
"We'll all getthrough this Joe, you won't be alone." Emily assured him but it didn't helphim much, he was scared what other personalities could come along. What theywould do to the people he loved, it scared him that he didn't know what hewould be doing at certain parts in a day or even a full day.
