Twenty Three

"I just called to invite you over for dinner with Kean, Emily will be there. I thought you could meet her?" Joe questioned. "I'm making your favourite." Joe tried to convince making Demi laugh. It had been two months since Joe and Demi found out they would be welcoming a baby into the world and they had spent the months getting to know one another and had become friends even if Demi's feelings were stronger towards him. She wasn't doing anything about it.

"I don't know Joe I was going to have dinner Colton and Willa." Demi answered but she didn't want to let him down in any way.

"Bring them along, I'll extend the table and make something different for the kids." Joe answered holding the phone to his ear using his shoulder so he could chop an onion up.

"Are you sure they'll be enough?" Demi inquired.

"Yeah, I'll whip a desert up too. They'll be enough." Joe assured her.

"Okay, we'll be around in an hour or so." Demi answered the two of them saying goodbye before they hung up Joe placing the phone on the counter.

"Is she coming?" Emily inquired as she entered the kitchen Elliot against her hip.

"Yeah but she's bringing her two friends and their son with her, I said they'd be enough." Joe explained kissing Elliot's head as he squealed. He was five months old now and getting more playful, he often slept all the way through the night and had mastered sitting up by himself. They were surprised because normally very few babies could at his age but they were glad he was developing well after his minor operation. They hadn't had any more problems.

"Make a desert or something." Emily suggested bouncing Elliot slightly making him laugh as he fisted her shirt in his hands.

"Way ahead of ya." Joe joked kissing her head gently before making his way to the cupboard. It didn't take too long for them to go back to being best friends again, things were a little awkward in the start but they soon got over it and got back to being themselves.

Joe held the door open as Demi entered Willa and Colton not far behind her Colton having hold of Carter who was hiding in his neck shy around new people.

"Hi Joey!" Kean exclaimed high fiving him as he held his hand out. Demi introduced Willa and Colton to him before they all made their way into the living room where Emily was now with Elliot who was laid on his play mat on his stomach. Emily got up though and greeted them all following Joe into the kitchen when he said he'd get some drinks.

"You okay?" Joe questioned Emily nodding her head.

"She's cute Joseph." Emily smirked up at him.

"Who Demi?" Emily nodded her head again. "She's not cute, she's beautiful." Joe replied laughing as Emily poked his side pushing her hands away.

"Joey has a crush." She teased him Joe grabbing hold of her wrists to stop her from tickling him again, she struggled slightly to get her hands back but he was too strong.

"Stop teasing!" He demanded letting go continuing to make drinks for everyone Emily now helping out. "I'm not going to lie though, I've thought about what it would be like to be in a relationship with her." He admitted.

"Ask her out then." Emily encouraged.

"She's having a baby, do you really think it's the best time?" Joe questioned.

"It is when she's carrying your baby," Emily laughed at him leaning up kissing his cheek gently. "You deserve to be happy Joe, if you think you could have something special with her don't let her being pregnant stop you." Emily lifted the tray up as he placed the last glass down exiting the room leaving Joe behind. He sighed standing there for a moment thinking about what he should do.
