"I have investigating to do. Can we talk more later?" Bethany said getting lost in Barry's gaze.
"What investigating? What're you up to?"
"Just a thing I'm looking into. No worries no psycho boys from my past today. I promise." Bethany said as she looked at her feet.
"I'm coming with you."
"No!" Bethany yelled out looking up in alarm. "Sorry but you can't Barry. I need to do this on my own. I'll call you okay?"
Barry sighed giving her a look. "Fine, but I swear if you get hurt-"
"You'll jinx it Barry. I will see you later okay?"
Barry nodded waving her off.
Leaving the precinct she made her way to the south side. Finding the charred warehouse she was once in she looked around making sure no one saw her before going in. A gust of wind blew past her right before she shut the door.
"Are you following me now? How'd you even know I was here?" Bethany said turning to look at him with her arms over her chest with a curious look on her face.
"I was in the neighbourhood. What is this place?" The Flash looked around seeing only blackened bricks, and a few stray tarps.
"I was here for a short amount of time my second year of captivity. We moved around from place to place. There are several facilities across the states. This one had blown up during one of the experiments. The basement is still intact fortunately for us."
Bethany shook her head walking past The Flash feeling along the floor until she found the trapdoor leading to the basement. She yanked on it the wood creaking, but didn't budge.
"A little help?"
The Flash smirked vibrating the door with his hands the wood easily coming off.
"There ya go."
"Stay here." Bethany said giving him a look. "I mean it." Then she disappeared into the darkness of the basement. It was a short drop, and she landed squarely on her feet with an 'oof'.
"Are you okay?" Flash called down.
"Yeah hold on give me a minute." Bethany used her phones flashlight to walk along the hallway until she came upon the power switch. She pushed up on it the hallway flooding with light.
"Alright come on." Bethany said heading down the hallway Flash by her side in a millasecond.
"Why are you here? I doubt you wanted to take a trip down memory lane."
"I'm looking for something. We left everything here. Well almost everything." Bethany said turning into a lab room. The metal table stood on its side the light flickering. Bethany closed her eyes taking a deep breath. It's okay she thought to herself. She hesitated stepping into the room.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine." Bethany said making her way into the room standing in front of a fridge. A fridge with only a few syringes in it.
"Think you can open it?" Bethany said hand on the cool glass looking at the serum that changed her. Changed her life along with her DNA.
"What's in it?"
"Dr. Siward called it PsychC. Third trial formula. I want to test it."
"Something like that needs to stay here."
"I have been exposed to each trial. I need to understand what it did to me. Please I only want to know what it is. I need to know if it can be reversed. I can only do that by testing it."
"How do you plan on testing it? You don't have a lab hidden somewhere do you?"
"No I-" Bethany stopped herself knowing she didn't have any real answer for him. "I'll figure something out." Bethany said crossing her arms over her chest a little defeated.
Flash stepped forward looking at the small box that locked the door. Using his speed he put in a series of codes until a click was heard and the door opened with a woosh.
Beth grabbed three syringes putting them in her back pocket. "Thank you." She whispered to Flash who just smiled at her.
"Just helping out."
Bethany smiled before leaving heading down the hallway. They passed several rooms one room in particular having the words 'Terminated' printed across it.
"Why is this one different?" Flash said pointing to the door.
"Max was one of the kids here. Two hours after being exposed his brain...could no longer compensate for the change so it-" Bethany choked up putting a hand on the small tile that read M. Huit.
Flash put an arm around her pulling her in for a hug. "I'm sorry." He whispered.
"It was a long time ago." She said getting ahold of herself. She continued going past several other rooms before stopping in front of the door that said B. Stone.
"Was this your room?"
"Yes it was. I spent a lot of time here." The door was already slightly open so she pushed it walking inside. The room covered in small drawings. One in particular was a picture of her family. Well a ten year olds version. She went over to the small metal bed lifting the mattress grabbing a small sheet of paper. Only a few words were on it. General Eiling.
Bethany stood in the middle of the room she was forced to live in, and was swallowed by memories. Memories that she wished she could forget. Flash reached out, and touched her shoulder swept up in it as well.
"Why am I here?" Little Beth cried as the doctor set her on the bed. "You hurt me, and moved me here why? I don't understand."
"Bethany you are the prize. I brought you here to be apart of something big remember? We are changing the human race, and what we know. Isn't it exciting?"
"No!" The child cried. "I just want my mommy and daddy. My head keeps hurting because of you. It burns when you put the stuff in it. I just want to be home." Bethany buried her head in her knees.
The doctor sighed standing up to leave. "Bethany the next test will be administered soon. Are you prepared for PsychC? It should make your brain be able to do unspeakable things! Like a superhero!"
"A superhero?" Bethany said sitting up rubbing her eyes. "Like Superman?"
"Just like Superman! Do you wanna be superman Bethany?"
The little girl nodded. "I want to save everyone. Save them from the ugly villains."
"You'll be able to with these tests Beth. Just wait, and see."
Bethany blinked coming back to reality. "Superman." Bethany said shaking her head. "Far from it."
Bethany looked at the Flash who only stared at her. "No comment then?"
"I don't know what to say." He said shrugging.
"Sometimes it's better that way."
