Chapter 10

"Hello, Doctor." Sherlock took a seat next to the Doctor on a nearby bench. Sherlock observed him. He obviously wants to tell me something important, and judging by his face it's not good news. Sherlock then saw a police box far in the distance and smirked. What's with him and that box?

"Sherlock," The Doctor cut to the chase. "You do know there's a reason why I can't help you and the others." Sherlock grew frustrated.

"What could be so important that you can't help John? And, all of mankind of course." He added while blushing. The Doctor took a deep breath. Here we go, Sherlock thought. Some crazy illogical answer.

"If I go to the Daleks, they will be able to scan me and remember who I am." Of course, because their memory is more important than John. I'm wasting my time here, Sherlock thought angrily.

"But, that's not the reason I can't help you." The Doctor paused for a moment to find a way to phrase what he wanted to say.

"It's you, Sherlock. Crowley wants you to be his vessel." Sherlock took a moment to understand what the Doctor meant.

"Well why does that mean you can't help John?" Sherlock protested.

"Crowley wants your extremely brilliant mind, and if we get him out of John, he'll go straight for you."

"Well why hasn't he came to me yet? I mean, he's had several opportunities."

"He's waiting for the right time. Now, what I recommend, is you ask one of the Winchester brothers to get you an antipossession tattoo so Crowley can't-"

"But if I let Crowley in, John will be safe, right?" Sherlock interrupted the Doctor who thought for a moment.

"Well yes, but it would mean the end of the world." Sherlock, who was now on his feet, pondered this. The Doctor realized he was confused and took this moment to explain himself thoroughly.

"Project Mortem was designed by the Daleks from the near beginning of time. They fashioned every detail perfectly so it couldn't be stopped. That's when they saw you. Your mind was complex, and that intrigued them, seeing as you're human. They knew that with you and Death on their side, they would be unstoppable. But one thing they didn't foresee, is you turning against them. You, Sherlock, can outwit them. I'm sorry to say this, but if you do outsmart them, John will be lost to you forever. I know this is a lot to take in, and if I could I would switch places with you in a heartbeat. But they know Timelords and all their secrets. You, however, are something new that even the Daleks won't be able to stop. Only you can save mankind." And with that, the Doctor got up and left Sherlock in silence. I can save John, or I can save the world. This thought ran through Sherlock's head until he reached his flat. He walked into the room where he found all the men asleep. All of them except Sam who sat at the table playing mindlessly with Dean's leftover pie.

"Ehem." Sherlock cleared his throat to get Sam's attention.

"Oh, hey Sherlock. Didn't see you come in." His voice sounded exhausted. Sherlock took a seat across from Sam.

"So I thought it would be best if everyone here had an antipossession tattoo. You know, just in case Crowley tries to get one of us." Sam was a bit taken back by this. He let out a small laugh.

"Since when do you believe in the supernatural?" Sherlock just ignored him.

"So tattoo or not?"Sherlock asked impatiently. Sam pulled his shirt collar down to reveal a tattoo of a star surrounded by a flaming circle.

"You mean like this?" Sam asked with a smile. Sherlock nodded.

"Alright. If you really want to, but why the sudden interest?"

"No reason." Sherlock got out of his seat and led Sam out of the flat.

A few hours later, Dean and Jack finally awoke from their naps. They groaned and stretched from the uncomfortable sleep. Sam sat with Sherlock who was rubbing his shoulder where the tattoo was. Dean walked over and listened to Sam try to explain to Sherlock what a shape shifter is.

"Wait, so they just leave the skin in the sewers?" Sherlock asked in disgust. "And they can change into whomever they want?" Sam, wide eyed, nodded his head. His attention turned to Dean.

"So how was your sleep?" There was a hint of jealousy in his tired voice.

"Marvelous." He replied sarcastically while stretching his arms. "Where have you guys been?" Sherlock lifted his sleeve to show Dean the new tattoo. Dean raised his eyebrows.

"Wow. Looking good Sherlock." He said with a yawn. Jack dragged himself over to the table to join the conversation.

"You wouldn't believe the dream I had." He said while still half asleep.

"Actually, I would, seeing as we have the same dream." Sam retorted.

"No." Jack shook his head. "Something was different in this one." He let out another yawn. "This time, when I walked into the warehouse, the man who stood there was gone. He was replaced by a table with a bottle on it." Jack fell into one of the chairs and lay his head on a nearby book.

"I don't remember any bottle." Sherlock thought back to his dreams, and there was definitely no bottle.

"Neither do I. Wait a second." Sam abruptly jumped out of his seat which jolted Jack awake. "What did the bottle say?" His voice was urgent, where as Jack's seemed like he was still asleep.

"I think it said, lantha- something or other."

"Lanthanum! That's what your key is!" Sam's face lit up.

"Wait, did you say you were in a warehouse?" Sherlock asked. Jack nodded his head in reply. "Well, mine took place on top of a hill. I think it was called Richard Brook Hill." Sam was laughing with glee.

"So the weapon will be located on Richard Brook Hill, and the liquid we have to put in it is Lanthanum! Great! Crowley will be so pleased! Now I just need to get this big guy to fall asleep, and we'll have all the keys." Everyone stared at Sam with their jaws dropped.

"Sam? Are you alright?" Dean's eyes were filled with worry.

"Sorry to disappoint but," Sam blinked and his eyes changed into black. Sherlock jumped in surprise. Sam's eyes reminded him of John and felt guilt rising in his chest. Sam smirked.

"But he has an antipossession seal!" Dean still couldn't believe what was happening.

"Yes! I saw it right before we left for the tattoo parlor." Sherlock added.

"Well, while you were distracted, Sherlock, I managed to burn off his tattoo, with the help of a few other demons, and slip into Sammy. The only thing is, he honestly doesn't know what his key is. I bet Crowley will know what to do." This caught Dean's attention.

"You're not going anywhere with Sam." Dean's voice was deadly serious. His threat made Sam laugh.

"Well what are you gonna do? You can't use your demon knife on poor Sammy." He smirked and began to saunter out of the room when Dean threw a punch at Sam's face. Sam caught the punch and jammed his own fist into Dean's chest. With a smile, Sam ran out of the room.
