Chapter 9

"Explain to me one more time what a Dalek is?" Dean asked. Jack sighed exhaustedly. This would be the third time he's tried to tell Dean what these robots are.

"I'll try to be as simple as I can; they are aliens from a planet called Skaro. They're enemies of my friend and all they want is destruction. They're basically a physical form of hate."

"You lost me at aliens." Dean said plainly to Jack's disappointment.

"Wait, who's your friend? You know, the one who's the Daleks' enemy." Jack shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

"I don't know if I should tell you. He's really trying to stay away from Daleks, and he's a very secretive man." But of course the Doctor is the only one who could stop the Daleks. However, ever since he went to the Dalek ship and met Clara, the Daleks lost all memories of the Doctor, and I'm sure he'd like to keep it that way. Jack's thoughts were interrupted when Dean started to talk.

"Jack. Who is your friend? He might be the only one who can help us." Jack agreed and with a sigh mumbled,

"The Doctor." Sherlock suddenly looked at him in surprise.

"The Doctor?!" Wow. Thought Sherlock. I haven't seen the Doctor since that cyberman incident. He shivered at the still unexplainable occurrence.

"Sam, we met a doctor once. Remember that vampire job?" Dean said with a smile.

"Oh yeah! You aren't talking about the Doctor with the TARDIS? And the companions." Dean's face lit up.

"Mm, I remember the companion. Clara. She had those gorgeous eyes..."

"Yes, that Doctor." Jack continued the conversation. "But how do we call him? It's not like he hands out the TARDIS's phone number to everyone he meets!"

"Actually," Dean says as he pulls out his phone. "Right here! He told me to call if it was an emergency." Jack slaps his face.

"Way to stay secretive, Doctor. Okay, I'll give him a call. You guys wait here." Jack grabbed the phone and left the flat in silence.

"Doctor! The phone is ringing." Clara exclaimed.

"Yes, it does that." The Doctor said as he poked his head out from under the platform Clara stood on. "Well go on, answer it!" Clara picked up the phone and cleared her voice.

"Hello?"

"Hi! I'm looking for the Doctor. My name is Jack Harkness." Said the voice on the other line.

"One second," Clara held her hand against the phone and yelled to the Doctor, "There's a man named Jack Harkness who wants to talk to you." There was a crashing sound from underneath her feet followed by footsteps running towards the phone. The Doctor yanked the phone from Clara.

"Jack? Is that really you!" The Doctor's voice was excited, unlike Jack's.

"Yes Doctor, it's me. There's something I need to talk to you about."

"Anything, Jack!" Jack gulped.

"Well, um, have you heard of Project Mortem?" The Doctor's face grew intent and his voice turned serious.

"How do you know about that?"

"I'm part of it. So is Sherlock Holmes and Sam Winchester, and I know you can help. So could you-" Jack's voice was cut off when the Doctor hung up the phone.

"So who was that?" Clara asked with a smile.

"Project Mortem. How did Jack get caught up in this mess? Sherlock Holmes, smart fellow. But he never believed a thing about aliens or time travel. And of course, the Winchesters. Best hunters I've ever seen." The Doctor rambled out loud to himself. "But no. I can't help them."

"Look, I have no idea what you're talking about, but that man sounded pretty desperate. You have to help him, Doctor." Clara looked into the Doctor's cold eyes.

"I can't."

"Well why not?"

"Because I can't!" The Doctor yelled furiously. Clara took this as a sign that the Doctor should be left alone, but right before she exited the room, the Doctor asked, "Wait. Could I borrow your phone?"

Back at Sherlock's flat, Jack walked towards the men.

"Well, how'd it go?" Sam asked expectantly.

"He can't help us." Jack said in defeat. There were shouts of anger throughout the room. Sherlock, however, noticed he just received a text from an unknown number.

Meet me at Regent's Park.
