    Gem Harvest

    So as we know, the gems like to use other gems to power their buildings and structures. As show in:
    
                          
    Lunar Sea Spire-
    Lost the moon goddess statue and could no longer keep itself from collapsing. Pearl said it would reform if the the moon goddess statue was replaced. 
    
                          
    Lapis' Mirror-
    Lapis' gem is used
    
                          
    Dessert Glass-
    Desert Glasd gem is used
    
                          
    So when we look at the Crystal Heart and the Heart that resembles it on Peridot's ship, it should be the same thing, Gem Powered.
    
                          
    Did you notice the lack of other passengers on Peridot's ship? They were used to fuel the heart that powered the ship.
    
                          
    That's why Peridot said, "You're going to harvest me?!"  
    Harvest means to gather for energy production.
    
                          
    Also, the heart in the crystal temple has veins that connect to the gem holding room. I believe some of the gems there become fuel to keep the Crystal Heart beating. 
    
                          
    So basically, my theory is that the Crystal Gems and Peridot used gems to power their ship's and temple's hearts.
