Peridot and Jasper:Remember the episode, "Too Far," where peridot wanted to impress Amethyst, a Quartz warrior, so badly? She tried making jokes and following orders, she wanted to be on Amethyst's good side. Take a look at the scene below with Peridot and Jasper.
Seems as if Peridot doesn't care if she makes a good impression with Jasper or care for her opinion, in fact, she argues with her. She said that she always obeyed orders but she didn't willingly listen to Jasper's.

Yellow Diamond and Jasper:When peridot tells Yellow D that the ship was destroyed, Yellow replies with;
"By whom?"
This means, that Yellow Diamond didn't know about the Crystal Gems even though Peridot did. Peridot was worried about the gems but not enough to inform her diamond. That also means that Peridot requested a Quartz warrior to travel with her for protection and Yellow Diamond assigned her weakest, less valued soldier(Jasper) to be her guide because why send your strongest to an abandoned gem colony? It's useless and pointless. Jaspers are even mentioned in legend to, and I quote," assist with astral travel. It brings a gentle but unassailable protection to the traveler."Yellow Diamond didn't care about Jasper truly. She asked Peridot, "Where is the Jasper I assigned you," and then "and why aren't you calling me from the ship?"
Peridot ignores the first question and answers the second, Yellow Diamond not noticing or caring about the Jasper part not being answered. I'm pretty sure if a ship crashed and my top Quartz warrior was missing, I'd be pretty suspicious and wouldn't take "technical error" for an answer. It's not likely that a technical error takes down a ship and a strong Quartz warrior down with it, leaving the Peridot unscathed.
