The play:
Chorus: In the beautiful city of Verona, where our story takes place, a long-standing hatred between two families erupts into new violence, and citizens stain their hands with the blood of their fellow citizens. Two unlucky children of these enemy families become lovers and commit suicide. Their unfortunate deaths put an end to their parents' feud. For the next two hours, we will watch the story of their doomed love and their parents' anger, which nothing but the children’s deaths could stop. If you listen to us patiently, we’ll make up for everything we've left out in this prologue onstage.
(A/N) I'm skipping parts in the play, because I'm pretty sure you guys don't want to hear everything. Also, all the lines are from online. So enjoy! :D)
Act One, Scene Five:
ROMEO
(taking JULIET’s hand) Your hand is like a holy place that my hand is unworthy to visit. If you’re offended by the touch of my hand, my two lips are standing here like blushing pilgrims, ready to make things better with a kiss.
JULIET
Good pilgrim, you don’t give your hand enough credit. By holding my hand you show polite devotion. After all, pilgrims touch the hands of statues of saints. Holding one palm against another is like a kiss.
ROMEO
Don’t saints and pilgrims have lips too?
*Adrian said locking his eyes with mine.*
JULIET
Yes, pilgrim—they have lips that they’re supposed to pray with.
ROMEO
Well then, saint, let lips do what hands do. I’m praying for you to kiss me. Please grant my prayer so my faith doesn't turn to despair.
JULIET
Saints don’t move, even when they grant prayers.
ROMEO
Then don’t move while I act out my prayer.
Adrian looks into the crowd and then back at me. His eyes glance at my lips then to my eyes. He leans in, me doing the same, but I start to stand on my tip-toes to reach him. He grabs my head, and connect his lips to mine. Our hands intertwined while kissing passionately, and slowly.
"Yeah!" Someone chanted from the crowd. I broke apart and blushed while everyone else hooted and cheered.
Now my sin has been taken from my lips by yours.
JULIET
Then do my lips now have the sin they took from yours?
ROMEO
Sin from my lips? You encourage crime with your sweetness. Give me my sin back.
Then, we kiss again, and let me tell you, it wasn't a short one either....
