Chapter 24
Simon's POV
2 hours later...
I slowly wake up from the heavy doses of pain medication that put me to sleep. I look around the room. Am I really awake? I have to blink a few times to confirm that I am. Thank God I'm alive. Pat smiles at me. "I'm glad to see that you're awake. You're quite a heavy sleeper. Between surgery and recovery, you've been asleep the entire day." I laugh. "Well as much as fun as the surgery experience is for you doctors and nurses, I'm hoping I won't have to endure it again anytime soon. Can I see Demi?" "Of course. I'll go get her right now. One moment." Pat comes back with her about a minute or so later.
She beams at me like the sun. It makes my heart swell. "Simon, you're alive!" I try to hold in my laughter, but I can't. "For God sake's Demi are you going to say that every time I wake up after being asleep out of laughter." "Probably for at least the next month or so until I know you're in the clear. By the way I don't do it to annoy you, I do it out of love." "I know Demi. I love you." She kisses my forehead. "And I love you."
Simon's doctor comes in the room. "Hey Simon, how are you feeling?" He grabs his head a bit. "Hazy and somewhat dizzy, but other than that I'm okay." "That's just the medicine slowly wearing off. I just wanted to tell you that we're going to keep you here for a couple more nights for observation purposes. If you remain in stable condition for the next 48 hours, then you're allowed to go home." Demi and I look at each other and smile at the doctor. "That's wonderful news doc. I'll make sure to tell my heart not to be a bastard for the next two days." He laughs, talks to Demi for a couple minutes, and tells me that he'll back to check on me one last time before he leaves for the night.
