Chapter 33

Nick's POV

That night... after the show...

     I'm completely dreading what I'm about to do, but the guilt is eating me alive. I need to be honest about my feelings for Demi to Simon. I see Simon making himself a sandwich in the kitchen area of the bus. "Hey Simon." He smiles. "Hey Nick! Good job tonight like usual. Are you hungry?" I brush the offer off. "I'm good Simon. I actually came in here because I need to talk to you about something." Concern washes over him as he notices me tensing up. "What's wrong Nick? You went from healthy to sickly pale within a few seconds. I'm sure whatever is you have to tell me isn't that bad."

    I begin to pace the floor. "Actually it is. Do you still want to hear what I have to say?" He nods. "Simon, Demi and I have known each other since we were little. I know that you've also known Demi for quite some time, but I need to be honest and tell you that I've had feelings for her for years. Long before she met Wilmer or you. I promise you I would never make a move on her when she's with another man. I never did when she was Wilmer nor will I do the same to you. I'm not that shallow. You and Demi are wonderful together. You're the first man to truly make Demi feel safe in a long time. I just wanted to tell you that I love her as well, but her happiness comes first. Don't mess anything with her. She's the best woman you'll ever find. There's no one else out there like her. If on the off chance that you guys break up, I will be waiting for her. I'd rather be single for years to come than being with someone who isn't her." 

       Simon is pissed, but not to the point of strangling me. "Nick, while I am not pleased with hearing this, I do appreciate you being honest with me. Very few people have the courage to face me like you just did. Everyone sees me a scary man, but they don't know that I actually do have a heart and emotions.  I trust you that you won't make any moves on Demi, but I am going to be a bit of weary for a little while until I know for certain. I could never remove you from Demi's life. You're a big part of it as well as me. We'll just have to take things in stride. Deal?" "Deal." He nods and I leave the kitchen to go and think for a bit.
