4.Told Her What?

That went on for a week before John took me to Anna's house. “Hello John. How is James?” Anna asked as we stood on her doorstep.

“Hi Anna. Why don't you ask him yourself?” John chuckled as he took a step back.

“James! You look wonderful!” she exclaimed as she threw her arms around my neck and planted kisses on my cheeks.

“Anna, let's get him inside,” John commanded as he glanced around and he seemed on edge.

“Sure John. Follow me,” she ordered as she led us into the living room and made sure to close the drapes.

“Anna? John? Is there something?” I asked totally confused as I settled myself on the couch, letting my body sink into the cushions.

“Well, you have been missing for twelve years; so it would be interesting if anyone spotted you,” John answered quickly, glancing at Anna.

“It was very strange when John and I returned; so we are hoping to keep you from that,” finished Anna as she sat down next to me.

“Okay, but I can see my family right?” I asked worried as I looked into both of their faces, while holding a fluffy pillow close to my chest.

“Yes, but you must be careful of who you tell your name,” warned John with a serious tone.

“I will be. Oh, John. Have you told her?” I asked as I became depressed.

“Told me what?” she asked confused as she glanced at John.

“James, I haven't; but I didn't tell her about you changing. You can tell her,” John replied; then he hurried up the stairs.

“What is it, honey?” she asked, getting very concerned.

“I can't be a human forever. Actually I don't have long at all,” I cried and tears ran onto the fluffy pillow.

“What do you mean?” she snapped as she stared in my face, trying to figure out if I was pulling her leg.

“There wasn't enough of the stuff or money to keep me a human long,” I answered depressed as I stared at the pillow. It was white with little wet marks from my tears.

“How long do you have?” she choked as tears filled her eyes.

“John said that it should last a year tops,” I replied as I glanced into her eyes that shimmered with teardrops.

“Oh, if that is how long; then we shall make the best of it,” she cried as she stood.

“Let's go to bed,” called John from the top of the stairs; so Anna and I went upstairs and shared the same bed.
