38.Not Who I Am!

The following day, a lion from the nearest zoo was brought to our lion farm. His legs had been severely torn during a battle with a larger male. Dr. Jason and I bandaged his legs, while he laid in the biggest stall. When we would leave him alone, I would return in lion form; so it wouldn't be odd for the lion, but I got caught.

“James, can you come to the house please?” my wife called very disturbed.

I padded out of the barn before changing back into a human. “Yes dear?” I asked as I brushed the grass off my ripped pants and I had removed my shirt earlier.

“You need to stop transforming. James, you're not a lion!” she cried as she grabbed my hand. “Come. We all need to have a talk.” She pulled me into the house as she yelled, “Everyone please come to the dining room.”

“Anna, whats wrong?” my mother asked as everyone sat down beside Anna and me.

“Lion boy is transforming too much. He is costing us precious time with him as a human. He is turning into a lion to talk to the injured one,” Anna told as she pointed at me.

“Do you want me to talk to him, while I look like this?” I snapped. “This is not who I am! I'm not a human in a lion body anymore! That changed a long time ago! Why can't you get that?”

“James, we love you as a human,” Anna told as she stared at me hurt.

“And not as the lion you fell in love with before you knew what I was!” I yelled quickly.

“I think I understand your point, Anna. James, it isn't the shots allowing you to do this. It is because your time is running low and every time you change, you lose a little of that time to be a human,” John explained as he stood. “James, the change is making you act strange again. You must remember that you're human. Think about your parents and how little time they have had with you.”

“They are right, son; so please stop changing. We have so little time with you and we don't want to lose what we can have,” my father pleaded.

“All right! But what about King?” I asked furious.

“You may talk to him as a human,” Dr. Jason commanded and everyone agreed with him.

“Fine,” I hissed before I went back outside. I chimbed up a tree and sat there crying. Was the change really making me act this way? Did I truly not want to be human anymore? Or was it just too late to save me from the beast I had become? King's crying broke my thoughts; so I got down and ran into the barn.
