50.A Lion in a House. Seriously?
I woke hours later in the barn. I stood and padded out of my stall. I checked Tigger's stall and found him asleep; so I checked on Milly. Her tail was gone and all she had left was a little nub, wrapped in linden.
I ran to the house and let myself in. I padded over to the living room to find John and Dr. Jason quietly talking. They looked up and saw me. John rushed to my side and cried, “I'm so sorry, James. Do you need anything? Better question, can you still speak to us?”
“Don't be sorry and I would love something to eat. I'm starving,” I laughed as I let him rubbed my head.
“Good. I will go get some meat,” he responded before he ran off.
“James, are you hurt?” Dr. Jason inquired as he knelt on the ground.
“I don't think so. King isn't very strong yet,” I answered as I stared at him.
“May I check?” he asked politely and I nodded; so he ran his hands over my body. “You're good,” he chuckled.
John rushed in with a small plate of raw meat, which he laid at my paws before saying, “I left some food in your stall.”
“Okay,” I replied as I quickly devoured the meager portion. “Where is everyone else?”
“Your parents took Anna and Annie out to eat. Anna was so upset, when she learned that you had been attacked,” John answered sadly.
“Okay. How is Milly?” I asked worried about the young female.
“The operation was successful. Oh! We learned that she is pregnant!” Dr. Jason exclaimed as I laid at their feet.
“Oh, when do you think she is due? Are the babies okay?” I asked quickly as Dr. Jason scratched behind my ears.
“A couple months and yes, I believe so,” Dr. Jason replied as he removed his hand.
“James, what was wrong with King?” John asked and I looked at him.
“You guys walking freely, while he was locked up. He didn't like being locked up at all,” I responded sadly. “What are we going to do with him?”
“He leaves tomorrow,” John told as he touched my head.
“Oh,” I said before I went to my stall in the barn. I ate the meat before I opened Tigger's stall. “Tigger, get up,” I commanded as I nudged my sleeping grandson.
“Yes?” he responded as he got to his feet.
“Follow me,” I ordered as I led him by the tip of my tail on his nose. I opened the door of the house and we both entered; then I took him into the living room and we laid down.
“Where am I, Grandfather?” Tigger asked confused by the carpet under his feet.
“In my house. Stay here,” I answered as I moved away from him, when John entered the room and stared at me.
“James! Have you lost your mind?” screamed John as he kept looking from Tigger to me.
“No,” I purred as I glanced at Tigger, who was sniffing the air.
“Then what were you thinking, bringing a wild lion in here?” he asked as he stared into my cat eyes.
“He is my family. I promise that he won't hurt anyone.” I noticed Dr. Jason come up behind John; so I asked, “Have you checked his eyes?”
“No. He has been sleeping a lot,” Dr. Jason answered as he walked over to Tigger. He waved his hand in front of Tigger's eyes and they didn't move. “Sorry James. I can't fix his problem.”
“It is okay,” I responded before I led Tigger back to his stall. I told him goodnight and I locked him in his stall. I walked into my stall and slept.
I woke the next morning and I let Tigger out of the stall. We went back to the house and into the living room. Anna soon joined us, but she was a little wary of there being another lion. “Hello dear. This is Tigger, my grandson. He is blind now,” I greeted and Tigger sniffed the air.
“Hello James. Why did you bring him in here?” she asked nervously.
“He won't hurt anyone, I promise,” I told before I lead him over to Anna and she carefully stroked him.
“Who is touching me?” Tigger asked as Anna patted his head.
“My wife,” I mewed as I glanced at Anna.
“But she is human,” he replied confused.
“Do you remember the story, I used to tell?” I mewed quickly and Anna stared at me.
“Yes. Was she one of those experiments too?” he inquired.
“Yes, but she was turned back,” I roared softly.
“Why weren't you?” he asked puzzled as he licked Anna's hand.
“I was for a little while, but I changed back,” I mewed sadly.
“James, what is wrong?” Anna asked confused as she saw tears roll through my fur.
“Nothing dear,” I replied as I looked at her. She was perfect and normal like I could never be. “I told Tigger about you changing back. I'll take him back now. Dear, could you ask John to meet me at the barn?”
“Yes,” she answered before I led Tigger back to the barn.
