40.Ruined It

I woke to Anna letting me out. “James, how did you sleep?” she asked as she stared at me.

“Good. This grass is warm,” I purred before I kissed her. “You're not mad at me, right? I'm sorry I yelled at you. You're right like always. I'm just wasting valuable time.”

“I'm glad that you have come back to your senses. Now, go up and put these on,” she commanded as she tossed me some clothes.

“Alright dear,” I agreed before climbing the ladder to the loft. I tossed off my shirt and stared into the mirror, Dr. Jason had set up. On my chest was yellow fur and I yelled, “Anna, get up here quick!” She climbed up and when I showed her, she fainted. “Anna. Wake up,” I cried as I gently tapped her face.

Her eyes fluttered open and I helped her up. “James, stay here,” she commanded before she left. She returned five minutes later with Dr. Jason and John. “John, please say I'm wrong,” she pleaded.

“I'm afraid that the change has started slowly, but we can slow it more by James not changing for any reason,” John answered sadly.

“NOT NOW! Please! I wanted to be closer!” she cried before she fainted again.

“Closer to what?” I asked as Dr. Jason check her pulse.

“James, the reason she has been after you to stay human as long as possible is because she is pregnant again and in about a month or two, she is going to have them,” Dr. Jason answered as he looked back at me.

“And I wasted our time. Why didn't she just tell me that was the reason?” I cried as I knelt down and held her hand.

“Who knows?” replied John as he gripped me under the arm and picked me up.

“What should I do? I have ruined it for her and the babies,” I cried as I stared at Anna's sweet face. Why didn't she just tell me?

“One. Don't change into a lion anymore; so don't get mad,” John answered as he kept a hand on my shoulder.

“Two, spend as much time as you can with your love ones,” Dr. Jason finished as he stood.

“And what about Anna? How do I tell her that I was stupid? And that I should have listened to her?” I asked quickly and both brothers laugh.

“Just like that, but for now I'll take care of her,” Dr. Jason laughed as he lifted her onto the metal table.

“James, you should go to the house and sleep. Maybe, if we are lucky, it might go away,” John suggested before I headed to my room in the house.
