35.I'm a Wild Animal

The next morning, I woke to the sound of voices. I got up and changed clothes before heading downstairs. Anna, Dr. Jason, John, and my parents sat on the couches, discussing my future now.

“I think he should stay in our house,” my mother told as she held my father's hand.

“But how will you explain that you have a lion in your house. He will have to go to a zoo,” replied Anna sadly.

“We can take care of him and he can stay in the house. He is our son after all,” my father declared.

“Lions are wild and need to be outside. He may seem calm, but he is still a lion,” John explained.

“John and Anna are right. I'm a wild animal, Mom and Dad. You don't understand. I hunt for food and fight for mates; plus, I have had more wives than you can imagine,” I started as I walked towards them and now I had all their attention on me. “Calm as I can be, there are times when this change has made me do weird stuff that can hurt normal people. It would be hard to keep me locked up inside. Lions are not quiet animals and we eat a lot of raw meat.”

“Well, what do you suggest we do?” my parents asked quickly.

“I don't want to return to a zoo and defiantly not a circus; but what about a lion ranch?” I told as I finally got to my point. “Don't think I don't want to live with you, but I'm a dangerous beast.”

“So James, you know of a lion ranch?” John asked confused.

“No, but we can make one,” I explained. “Dr. Jason could be the vet; then we could have injured lions and we can heal them; plus, I will have some of my own kind to keep me company.

“Dear, it is a great idea; but you speak like you're not human, just a lion,” my mother pointed out and I glanced at her.

“Mom, I'm more lion every day and there is nothing any of us can do about it. I have come to accepted that I will be a lion forever and so will you,” I replied sadly and I saw tears fill hers and Anna's eyes.

“I know of a place,” my father started, trying to change the subject. “My father, your grandfather James, own a huge farm a couple miles away. It would be perfect for your idea, son.”

“Dr. Jason, do you agree?” Anna asked as she walked up to me and I put an arm around her.

“Yes, I will do anything to help James,” Dr. Jason answered happily.

“We can go see the place later,” my father told quickly before my parents left.
