22.More Lion Than Son

A couple hours later, Bob had still not returned; but I was back to half lion, half human form. I quickly undid the lock and threw a cape over my shoulders. I ran down the stairs and hopped out an open window. I ran past Anna's house to my parent's, where I quickly tapped the door.

“Who is it?” asked my mother without opening the door.

“James, your son. Please let me in,” I pleaded as I held the cloak closer to me.

“Sure,” she said as she let me in; then I accidentally let the cape slip and she fainted.

I quickly closed the door and carried her to the couch. I got a wet rag and placed it on her forehead. She quickly recovered and asked, “What happened?”

“You fainted Mom. Please don't be scared,” I confirmed her thoughts and she fainted again; then my father walked into the room.

“Who are you? And what do you want?” he screamed as he noticed me.

“Dad, please calm down. It is me, James,” I said carefully.

“You look more like a lion than my son,” he yelled as he moved closer to his shot gun.

'Remain calm James. You can do this,' I prepped myself; then I confessed as I sat next to my mom, “I must tell you the truth Dad. Come and sit with me, please. I won't hurt you. I promise.”

“I'm listening,” he answered as he sat on the couch across from me.

“Remember how I went missing for the longest time.” He nodded so I continued, “While you thought I was just gone, I was at the zoo, living there. I had been turned into a lion by some evil men and now I have only a few months before I return to being a lion forever.”

“Then why do you look like a lion now?” he questioned and I agreed it was a good question.

“Because there wasn't enough money for the complete transformation. I only had a year to be human; but every time I get furious, I turned into a lion. When I calm down, I start to change back,” I answered as I stared at my fur-covered hands.

“Oh,” he replied as he tried to process what I said, but he was very confused.

“Please let me stay here and I'll show you,” I pleaded as I stood before him.

“Alright, go upstairs to your old bedroom and sleep there,” he ordered still unsure.

“Thanks Dad,” I said before I rushed to the room and fell asleep.
