"Are you free to talk?"

"Yes. Why?"

"Because we're about to have a very intense conversation."

"We are?"

"Yes."

"Ok, well... yeah, I'm free to talk. Go ahead."

"I want to discuss the message you left me last night."

"What about it? Oh, God! You're friends with Wills and Kate, aren't you?"

"No, I am not."

"Oh, thank God! I genuinely thought I had insulted your friends."

"That's not the case at all. In fact, I rather agreed with what you said."

"So, what do we need to talk about?"

"How the message ended."

"How did it end?"

"Are you joking? Please tell me you're lying."

"Ok, I'm lying."

"Now you're just placating me."

"What do you want me to say?"

"At the end of the message you said, 'I love you.'"

"Um, no I didn't. I said, 'Love you, bye.'"

"No, you didn't."

"Yes, I did."

"No, you didn't. You said, 'I love you.'"

"No, I did not."

"Yes, Soph, you did."

"I think I would remember-"

"Really, Dory?"

"I know I forget a lot of things, but I think I would remember saying that."

"Do you need me to play the message back to you?"

"No, because I did not say those words... I think."

"You think? What happened to being sure that you didn't say it?"

"I'm backtracking. Apparently you have my message saved, so I need a get out of jail, percentage of leeway mind of thing here. So, I'm eighty percent sure that I did not say 'I love you.'"

"I'm a hundred per cent sure that you did."

"Nah, I don't wholly believe you on that."

"Ok, let's assume that you did say it."

"Right?"

"Would you have meant it?"

"But I didn't say it."

"We're being hypothetical here, Soph."

"Yeah, fine. Um, well... I'm not sure if I meant it."

"You're not sure?"

"I mean... if I did mean it, I wouldn't have chosen to say it via an answerphone message from halfway across the world after four months."

"I have no idea if that answers my question."

"..."

"Ah, you're deliberately trying to confuse me."

"No, I'm just saying that if I meant it, it was shitty timing to say it."

"Ok, that does not answer my question. Did you mean what you said?"

"No. Yes. Maybe."

"Again, that doesn't really answer the question."

"What do you need me to say?!"

"I don't need you to say anything. I just want you to say something!"

"Like what?"

"I want you to tell me the truth! Do you love me?"

"Do you love me?"

"No!"

"No?"

"No!"

"I think this conversation is over, Daniel."

"What? No, Sophie. Wait."

"I can't. I have to go."

"Will you just give me a second?!"

"No."

"No?"

"No."

"Soph-"

"I have to go."

"Sophie!"

"Good bye, Daniel."
