-Sapphire's POV-
Aya and I followed Amari and Carmen as they rushed off to tell their parents that Aya was going to stay with them. Maybe I could convince them to let me stay, too. I would miss them if I couldn't... I would just have to visit them every so often if I couldn't stay with them.
"Dad! Dad!" Amari was calling out, bounding towards an astronaut in front of them. "Wait for us!" Compared to Carmen, Amari always seemed pretty hyper and just generally happy, and I couldn't help but like her because of it.
"Dad, we made a couple new friends! Don't you wanna meet them?" Amari asked. Carmen's face turned a bit stony at the word "friends". I figured that asking why wasn't the best thing to do right now. I would wait her out, and let her tell me when she was ready.
"Okay, who are they?" Their father asked, turning around to face Aya and I.
"That's Aya, and that's Sapphire." Carmen introduced us with surprising calmness. It was strange how well Amari and Carmen seemed to get along, even though they didn't act a lot alike.
"Nice to meet you. My name is Mark. I'm their father." Mark held out his hand, waiting for one of us to shake it. I volunteered first. His hand looked so beefy, but his grip felt gentle and welcoming. When he released my hand, Aya took it and shook Mark's hand with a smile.
"Dad, can Aya stay with us?" Amari asked tentatively. "Her camp got destroyed, she need a place to stay."
"If you guys can find room for her in the house, I'm alright with it." Mark replied. Aya's, Amari's, and Carmen's faces all lit up. Now would've been a good time to ask if I could stay, too, but I didn't wanna ruin the moment for them.
