-Aya's POV-
I wasn't exactly sure what had gotten into Sapphire. But either way, I didn't feel like being alone, so I went over to Amari's and Carmen's bedroom. I reached my fist out towards the door, figuring I should knock before I barged in; after all, they could be busy. But when I caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye, I froze, hand hovering before the door as I turned to my left to see what the object was.
Sapphire was walking away from the table, tears streaking her blotchy, red face. There was a half-empty glass of water on the table where she had just been sitting. Her body was shaking as she walked through the hallways before finally turning around, obviously losing track of where she was. Sapphire's eyes immediately landed on me, not even a second after she had turned around.
"Aya? What are you doing out here?" Sapphire asked. "I thought you were in our room drawing..."
"I got bored and left, and I saw you out here." I replied without hesitating. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I just... I just wanna go home again." She replied, tears welling up in her eyes. I wrapped my arms around her, and she tensed up. After a moment, Sapphire buried her face in my shoulder. I felt my jacket getting damp. Oh well, it'll dry. Besides, comforting Sapphire was worth a little more than keeping my coat dry.
"We all do, but we can't, Sapphire. I'm sorry, but we just can't go back right now. But someday, the Infection will stop spreading, and we can go back to living on Earth again like we're meant to." I tried to end my monologue on an optimistic note. Sapphire moved back just enough to look up at me.
"You think so?" She asked. I smiled.
"I know so." I replied. I was already smiling, and now she was smiling back.
