-Sapphire's POV-
I noticed the alien attacking Aya and ran to her, ready to stick my knife through the alien's back. However, someone beat me to it. Carmen yanked her sword out of the back of the alien, wearing a look I hadn't seen on her before- at least, not to this extreme. Pure hatred. I had never seen her look so hateful, and she had given me a lot of hateful looks, so that was saying something.
There was a fire of sorts in Carmen's eyes that hadn't been there a moment ago. After the alien fell lifelessly into the red dust, she turned and walked away without another word. I blinked and gave Aya a look to say what the heck was that about?. Aya only shrugged in response. I was about to go after her when a hand landed on my shoulder.
"Let her go. She can let out her anger by fighting the aliens, then she'll come back." Aya told me. I looked over my shoulder and brushed away her hand. I began to push my way through the crowd when an alien tackled me, pinning me to the ground. I couldn't move, I couldn't throw it off, I couldn't get away. It pulled back its fist. It can't kill me by punching me, right?
The first blow landed, and I gasped, surprised by the alien's strength. Then another, and another. I felt something run out of my nose and down my face, and I didn't even have to look to know that the alien had given me a nosebleed. I struggled, trying to throw the alien off and get the upper hand.
By some miracle, the alien did get knocked off- but not by me. I scrambled to my feet and looked over to see Amari smiling at me, her bow aimed near where the alien had been. She flashed me a thumbs-up. My nosebleed had cleared up, so after I had wiped away the remaining blood on my face, I returned her thumbs-up.
