-Carmen's POV-
As I fought the aliens, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. Another person, though I didn't recognize him. He had a broadsword, similarly to me, and I couldn't help stopping for a moment, stunned by his skill. He looked to be about a year younger than I was, but he'd obviously had some practice with a sword.
I returned to the fight when I felt the hand of an alien brushing my shirt, but the alien had taken advantage of my momentary distraction to tackle me. A knife went hurtling towards the alien, but the knife flew over its head. I looked up at the alien, and upon doing so, realized that this alien was one of our helpers- so then why was it attacking me?
That was when I realized that it wasn't attacking me at all. Another alien, this one a much darker shade of green, was holding a knife- it must've stolen the knife from one of the humans. The darker alien sank the knife into the back of the alien that had tackled me, and I realized that the alien that had tackled me must have been protecting me. If that alien hadn't knocked me down, that knife could've easily been in my back, instead.
The darker alien raised its knife again, but then seemed to get distracted by something else, leaving me with the alien that had sacrificed itself for my sake. I hadn't realized aliens were intelligent- or selfless- enough to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their allies. I shoved it off of me so I could stand up again, and searched to see if I could find where the alien that had killed it had gone.
When I caught sight of the darker alien, I found it fighting Aya. I knew I had to do something. I tightened my grip around my broadsword and charged.
