"Wait. So, you're pregnant?" Scott sat on the edge of the bed as you stood in front of him, wringing your hands nervously. You didn't know how he was going to take it. His eyebrows were furrowed and his eyes were cast down, and you honestly felt like you were going to vomit. For many reasons.
"And I'm going to be a dad?" There was a moment of silence that scared you slightly, because you didn't know if it was a good silence or not. That is, until Scott jumped up from his spot on the bed and wrapped his arms around you in a hug. You heavily breathed a sigh of relief and squeezed Scott so hard.
"You're not mad?" Scott laughed and pressed a kiss to your forehead.
"Hell no. Why would I be?" You shrugged your shoulders as more thoughts started to fill your head.
"What about Cassie? Will she be upset?" Scott ran his hand up and down your arm to comfort you, a smile on his face.
"Y/N, she'll be happy to have something other than a plastic baby doll." You giggled slightly and hugged Scott once more. Finally, a weight had been lifted from your shoulders and you could breathe easy. Two weeks past and you still hadn't told Cassie. Granted, you had a great excuse; you were waiting until after the doctor's visit to see that everything was legit, and then you would break the news. In those two weeks, you had plenty of time to mull over how you were going to do that, exactly. You thought maybe you'd get her a toy, or ice cream, or anything to lighten the load of the news. But, in the end, Scott said that just telling her straight up would be best.
You and Cassie had a great relationship. You were like best friends, which was something you'd always wanted before. You were sure she'd be ecstatic, but there was just something in the back of your mind that was telling you she wouldn't be.
The timer went off for the cookies that you had popped into the oven, and after letting them cool, you piled them all onto a plate. Scott watched intently, his eyebrows furrowed.
"What are these for?" he asked, reaching for cookie off of the plate. You narrowed your eyes quickly, a sigh escaping your lips as you set the plate down. You pressed your elbows into the counter and rest your head in your hand.
"Cassie," You replied. "You think we can tell her now?" Scott crunched on his cookie in thought as you watched, anxiety washing over you.
"If you want to. She's in her room, if you want to talk to her." You pushed yourself off of the counter and trekked towards Scott. You rest your head on his shoulder with a sigh. "She's not the worst critic, Y/N. she'll be excited."
"Guess you've never walked her down the barbie aisle at the store." Scott chuckled at your words. "Fine. But you're coming with me." Scott raised his eyebrows and scooted out of the stool that he sat at, reaching for the plate of warm cookies.
"Guess you'll need these, then."
As you took the mission towards Cassie's room. Cassie was sitting on her bed with two of the barbie dolls that you had gotten her, playing and changing their clothes and just doing what little girls do.
"Maybe we should just do it later." You started to turn away and regret the decision to tell Cassie, but Scott shook his head and shoved you into his daughter's room. Cassie turned to look in your direction, a pleasant smile on her face.
"Hi Y/N, hi daddy." Cassie dropped her dolls onto her bed and made room for you as you sat down next to her. Scott stood next to you, his hand clasped tightly around yours in comfort.
"Brought you some cookies." Cassie grinned when she saw the tall plate of cookies in front of you, reaching for one of the cookies on the plate. She began to nibble quietly, her eyes darting between you and Scott.
"So we have something to tell you," Scott began. A sigh escaped your lips, your eyes cast downward as you searched for the words to say. Scott's eyes met yours quickly and you nodded. You couldn't find the words to describe everything, but you couldn't grasp a single one. "Y/N is pregnant."
Cassie's eyes lit up, "Really?" She was ecstatic. So much, that she was bouncing in her spot on her bed.
"Really," You quickly validated with a smile.
"I'm gonna be a big sister?" Scott smiled sweetly at his daughter's comment. It hadn't really hit him until that moment, when he was sharing the excitement with the two people he loved most.
"The best big sister," You added again. Cassie squealed and launched her arms around you in a tight hug.
"Thank you so much!" Your cheeks grew warm, and, yet another weight was lifted from your shoulders. You actually had a thought that Cassie would not be excited at all, but that was the total opposite of what was happening.
"Is it a boy or a girl?" Cassie asked when she pulled away from the hug. You glanced up at Scott, who was also looking for an answer.
"Well, we don't know that right now," You said. "But we'll tell you when we do." Cassie smiled and hugged you again.
"I'm so excited!"
As you were walking out of Cassie's room, Scott had a certain look on his face that you didn't want to bring up, but you knew he wanted you to.
"Go ahead and say it, Scott." Scott smiled and pressed a chaste kiss to your lips.
"I told you so."
