----------------------------------------------You were standing underneath the gazebo in the garden of your home, which you could potentially lose. The shadows of the pillars fall on you like prison bars. She glances at a string quartet discreetly positioned in the shadows. They were watching as if waiting for some signal to start. Coal drops to his knee. You notice an artist immortalizing the moment that was unfolding before you.
And then Cole started to speak. "(Y/N) (Y/L/N), will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?" He asked you. You were so shocked that he was so blunt with what he had just said, but it didn't surprise you either. You knew that it would happen one day. Then you saw a caterpillar crawling on Cole's shoulder, you decided to alert him of the creature on his shoulder.
"Cole." You said.
"What is it (Y/N)?" He asked confused, and with a face on confusion covering his features.
"There's a caterpillar on your shoulder." You pointed at his shoulder. He started to frantically brush his shoulder trying to get the caterpillar off his shoulder. You decide to intervene and guide the caterpillar onto your finger and then lift it onto a near by leaf.
"You'll want to wash that finger." He said once you were in front of him. He looks towards his mother motioning to him to get on with it from the crowd. "(Y/N) (Y/L/N), will you be my wife?"
The question hangs in the air. Unsure of yourself, unsure of your future, unsure of your own sanity in that moment, you start to stammers. "I...I......well, everyone expects me to...and you're a Lord...and my face won't last...and I don't want to end up like...but this is happening so quickly...I think...I...I..."
You see a little Asian boy leaning against a pillar, glaring at her with undisguised impatience. He looks familiar. He was wearing a blue waist coat with white trousers. He held a golden pocket watch in his hand looking down at it to see the time.
You look back at Cole to see him waiting for a yes. You look back at the boy and see him tapping his watch, as if saying that it's time to go. He then takes off in a hurry, seeing the time. Turning back to Cole. "... I need a moment." You turn on your heel and start to run trying to catch up with the running boy.You follow the White Rabbit , over the hedge and across a meadow.
"Wait!" You cry out. In hope that the boy will slow down. But you lose sight of him. She peeks over the hedgerow. No
rabbit. Stumped, she looks around. A hand then reaches up and grasps you by the ankle. With a quick jerk, it pulls you down into the rabbit hole. You scream...
...and keep screaming as you tumble head over heels down the hole. You frantically grab at the walls which are hung
with paintings, ancient maps, cracked mirrors, demonic masks, etc. You start pull out books, jam jars, a crystal ball, a badger claw, a monkey's hand and a human skull in your frantic effort to stop yourself. And down you fall. It begins to grow dark as the day passes into night. And still you fall. Finally, after what seems like hours...
WHAM!
You hit bottom, smacking her head on a wooden floor. "Ah!"
Wind knocked out, you gasp for air, then sit up, rubbing the bump on your forehead. You're in a round hall with many doors. You get up and try a door. But it's locked. You try another one and another. You knock on the door.
"Hello? Hello! Anyone there?" No answer. You move around the hall. Every door locked. You see a three-legged glass table with a small key sitting on top. You pick up the key and tries it in a door. It's too small for the lock.
You try it in a few doors, too small. You come upon a curtain and pulls it aside to reveal a little door about two feet high. You try the key in the door. It fits! You open the little door and bend down to look through to the other side. You see a garden with a fountain in the centre of the area. You try to fit through the door, but your shoulders get stuck in the doorframe, you pull back so that you wouldn't be stuck for another moment in that tiny doorframe. Stumped, you go back to the table and replace the key. But now there's a bottle on the table. You look around for the person who put it there. "Is someone here?" You ask. Trying to see if there was someone else with you, and where that Asian boy is.
You look at the label on the bottle. "DRINK ME". You sniff the contents of the bottle. The stench made you want throw up. You, recoils, then shrug.
"It's only a dream." You say to yourself for reassurance. Just in case you were on any hallucination drugs.
You take a drink, shudders, gags and coughs from the taste. In a moment, you notice that the table is getting larger. It was now looming over you.
"That's curious." You notice that you're to two feet high now. You look up to see that the door now looms over your tiny body. You take a step and trip on you own now-oversized clothes. Dragging them behind, as you try to open the door. But it's still locked. You let out a groan, one you find out what you've done. You start to go back to the glass table where you can see the gold key sitting on top. But you are fortunately now small enough to fit through the key hole.
You decide to go through the key hole when you hear voices on the other side. You look through the key hole, you're met with the sight of a man wearing a purple waist coat and holding a red umbrella by his side. You can see that he was talking with a red-headed woman. She had a sheath with a long sword in it on her hips and she was wearing a long pink coat with a frilly shirt collar poking through the lapel of the coat.
"You'd think she would remember this from the first time." The man with the umbrella says to the little Asian boy whom you were chasing earlier.
"You've brought the wrong (Y/N)." The red-headed girl said to the boy.
"She's the right one Michael. I'm certain of it." The boy says, trying to justify himself.
You attempt to climb the table leg, but get tangled in your too-big clothes and slide off. You now take notice to a little box under the table. you look around for the unseen person who placed it there.
"If this is some sort of prank, I am not amused!" You shout. You open the box to see what's inside. It's a cake with "EAT ME" written out in ornate icing. you consider whether you should eat it or not, looking up at the key high above on the table you see that there is no other choice.
You take a tiny taste of the cake. It wasn't half bad. You decide to take another bite.
WHOOSH!
Your height begins to shoot upward rapidly. Your clothes fit again, but you just keep on growing. The buttons on your dress and undergarments pop, seams are strained and your skirt gets a lot shorter. The ceiling gets closer...your head only grazes it! You stop. Relieved, you bend down and pick up the gold key on the table. Crouching, you go to the little door and fits the key in the lock.
"She's the wrong (Y/N). You got the wrong girl Kevin.". The red-headed girl repeats herself again to the two beside her.
"Give her a chance Charlie, she might pull through." The little boy says again. To, as you have learned, Charlie and Micheal.
You laugh to yourself and go back to the table. You pick up the little bottle and take another swallow, you shiver at the taste. You take notice that you then shrink again to two feet high. Dragging your too-big clothes, you start to run to the door, and put the key in the lock, open it and steps through.
You enter a fantastical world. Underland is bizarre, illogical, often dangerous, absurd, and strangely beautiful. The garden is brown and tangled, its statues broken and overgrown. The mossy fountain is silent. Alice hears a bellow/sneezing sound as a green pig dashes past. The giant flowers have gaunt, haunted human faces. Shabby, thin birds walk on their tall stalk legs. Dragonflies, horseflies and enormous gnats do fierce battle in the sky above.
"Curiouser and curiouser." You say as you look around your new surroundings.
"I told you she's the right (Y/N)." Kevin says to the other two.
She turns to see Michael with his umbrellar, Kevin, Charlie and two round boys with their arms thrown over each other's shoulders, Castiel and Crowley are stitched on their collars. Castiel has bright blue eyes, while Crowley had dark eyes.
"I am not convinced." Michael says, as Kevin throws his hands up in the air.
"How is that for gratitude? I've been up there for weeks trailing one (Y/N) after the next! And I was almost eaten by other animals! Can you imagine? They go about entirely unclothed and they do their...shukm in public. I had to avert my eyes." Kevin says, shivering at his memories of upstairs in his head.
The Flowers with the human faces begin study you. "She doesn't look anything like herself." One flower speaks up.
"That's because she's the wrong Alice." Charlie tells them, crossing her arms over her chest. Pursing her lips into a thin line.
"And if she was, she might be." Crowley brings up the argument against Charlie.
"But if she isn't, she ain't." Castiel then argues against Crowley.
"But if she were so, she would be." Crowley counteracts.
"How can I be the "wrong (Y/N)" when it's my dream? And who are you, if I may ask." You say to the arguing group in front of you.
"I'm Crowley he's Castiel." Crowley says while shaking your hand, speaking very fast to you.
"Contrariwise. I'm Castiel he's Crowley." Says to you while shaking your other hand.
"We should consult Jodi." Michael says, as the two shake your hands.
"Exactly. Jodi will know who she is." Crowley puts out his arm to you.
"I'll escort you." Crowley offers to you. Castiel pulls you away from Crowley and towards him.
"It's not being your turn." Castiel says. They tug your arms between them.
Crowley starts to get agitated. "Leave off!"
Castiel fights back. "Let go!" He shouts.
"Are they always this way?" You ask, while they fight over who gets to escort you to Jodi.
"Family trait." Kevin answers, then turning towards the two boys pulling on your arms. "You can both escort her."
Crowley takes one arm and Castiel takes the other. You, Crowley, Castiel, Michael, Kevin and Charlie start off down a path. The Flowers start to gossip about you as you all pass by them.
"It can't be her. She looks nothing like (Y/N). She is not even wearing the right dress." One of the flowers says, referring to you tattered dress. Torn from the fall down the rabbit hole, and your simultaneous growth spurt.
"Who is this Jodi?" You ask. As you all make you way through the flower.
"She's wise. She's absolute." Says beside you
"She's Jodi." Castiel and Crowley say to you in unison. You all enter a forest of tall mushrooms surrounded by mist.
"Who are you?" Says voice. You could see a form ahead where the mist rises in a steady plume. It's coming from a hookah. You could see that there was a lady smoking it. She was wearing a long blue dress with a few blue daisies in her short brown hair. Kevin toward the big mushroom she was sitting on.
"Jodi?" You question the lady on the mushroom.
"You're not Jodi. I'm Jodi. The question is...who are YOU?
She blows smoke rings in her face. You cough when the mist enters your lungs.
"(Y/N)." You answer her question.
"We shall see."
"What do you mean by that? I ought to know who I am!" You say outraged, accused that you don't know your own name.
"Yes, you ought. Stupid girl. Unroll the Oraculum."
Kevin reaches up and unrolls an ancient parchment lying on a toadstool nearby.
"The Oraculum: Being a Calendrical. Compendium of Underland."
You look at the parchment in Kevin's hands. It's a timeline depicting the major events of each day. Every day has a title and an illustration. You could see the whole history of this place.
"It's a calendar." You state.
"Compendium. It tells of each and every day since the Beginning." Jodi says taking another puff.
"Today is Griblig day in the time of the Red Queen." Kevin reads out, pointing to the illustration. It shows all of them, including Alice, peering at the Oraculum, at that exact moment in time that was playing.
"Show her the Frabjous day." Jodi orders Kevin.
Kevin begins to turn the scroll further into the future.
"Frabjous being the day you slay the Jabberwocky." Crowley says to you.
"Sorry? Slay the...what?" You ask.
The illustration that is seen animates, moving. The Jabberwocky is tall as a dinosaur with reptilian wings, scales, long sharp claws, a pronged tail and a vest. IN front of the beast in the illustration, was a Knight with (Y/H/L) (Y/H/C) hair in chain mail fights him with a shining sword.
"That being you there with the Vorpal sword." Castiel points out.
"No other swords can kill the Jabberwocky. Nohow." Crowley says to you.
"If it ain't Vorpal, he ain't dead." Castiel says again.
You turn back to the parchment to see the picture move again. As she swings the sword, she reveals her face to the readers. The girl is unmistakably you, with bloodlust in your eyes. You back away and all faces turn to you. You can feel your blood runs cold in your veins.
"That's not me." You say, not believing what you've just seen.
"I know!" Charlie says.
"Resolve this for us, Jodi. Is she the right Alice?" Kevin asks Jodi, as she looks you in the eye.
"Not Hardly." She says as she blows smoke, obliterating herself from view.
"I told you!" Proclaims Charlie.
"Oh dear!" Kevin says just realising his mistake.
"I said so." Castiel says.
"No, I said so." Crowley argues.
"Contrariwise, you said she might be."
"No. You said she would be if she was."
"Little imposter! Pretending to be Alice! She should be ashamed!" The flowers shout out.
"I was so certain of you." Kevin points his finger in your direction
They all glare at you as if it is somehow your fault. You didn't know what to do, you were being accused for something that you didn't do. They were saying that you weren't who you are.
"I'm sorry. I don't mean to be the wrong (Y/N). Wait, this is my dream. I'm going to wake up now and you'll all disappear."You say, closing your eyes. You open them again. The group of people are still there. "That's curious." You decide to try another method to wake yourself up. You pinch yourself on your forearm again. The people are still there. "Pinching usually does the trick."
Charlie pulls a long sharp fencing sword without the cork on the end from her scabbard. "I could stick you if that would help." She offers.
"It might actually. Thank you." You say to the lady holding a sword to you.
"My pleasure." Charlie sasy, with a smug grin. She stabs you in the upper arm with relish. You let out yelp. But instead of a small sound, a thunderous roar is heard and the Bandersnatch smashes through a high wall. It has a huge furry body with the head of a rabid bulldog. Drool oozes from his squashed muzzle. His fur is caked with blood and filth. His teeth are shark like and broken, stained with blood. A foul stench emanates from him.
"Bandersnatch!" Crowley screams out of his lungs.
Everyone scatters in different directions. But they're intercepted by red knight's wearing the red Queen' crest: a heart in flames. The Knights capture the fleeing animals. A pig and a flamingo are caught and thrown into a caged wagon. Michael manages gets away. And a Knight grabs Kevin by his leg, lifting him up...
You will meet the Hatter/Sam in future chapters...
