Black Butler Imagine
"You'll tell me what you know of your master, won't you?" A silvery voice purred.
Sebastian had been doing his rounds, checking in on the three idiots of the house. He'd long since finished his chores, and he'd recovered smashed china as well as saved a rump roast from a nasty bout with a flamethrower. Next was Finny, but he was startled into a stop when he heard a woman making the poor gardener babble incoherently from around the corner.
"I-I-I miss...please...I can't...."
"You don't want to disappoint me, do you Fin?"
"I-I-...no."
"Good. So tell me what you've got on Ciel Phantomhive."
At this point, he had to intervene. He fully rounded the corner to see a rather lovely woman pressing Finny against the outer wall of the mansion. She was wearing men's trousers and a flowery blouse, made even stranger by what appeared to be riding boots on her feet and a newspaper boy's cap on her head."Excuse me, Miss, might I ask what you're doing with our gardener?"
Startled, she looked up, and slowly backed away from Finny."Oh, you know. Just seeing how the help likes it here."
"Well then, perhaps you'd rather start with me? I'm the head butler here."
"Are you? I already spoke to the head butler, a man named Tanaka.""He...spoke to you?"
"Yes. Is this odd?"
Sebastian was a bit taken, to say the least, but nevertheless he had a job to do."Of course not. I hate to be rude, but I must ask who you are and what your purpose here is."
"Oh, certainly. Y/n L/n, writer for the local paper. I've been asked to do a story on the mysterious Ciel Phantomhive."
"All well, my young master can be rather elusive. Perhaps you'd like me to ask him to make some time for an interview?"
"No, that's fine." She waved her hand dismissively. "I've got all that I need, unless he knows anything about Alois Trancy."
"I suppose he is your next story?"
"I've heard it said that he gouged his maid's eye out."
"Yes, I've heard that too. At least come in for tea?"
"How could I refuse?"
~~After a rather friendly visit, the young woman (whose name Sebastian had learned was Y/n) left rather quickly, as her carriage to the Trancy estate had arrived.
~~
"Sebastian, have you read this article?" Ciel tossed down his morning paper near his butler. "This woman seems to have me all figured out."
"Oh?" He picked it up and skimmed it quickly."It would appear that she is rather accurate, young master."
"And this is the woman who was poking around the other day?"
"Yes. Though she only managed to speak to Bard and Tanaka, she must be exceptionally good at making inferences."
"What I don't understand is why. What reason would anyone have for spying on me?"
"Well, your social outings are few and far between, young master. I can understand how the public might be curious."
"Is she a problem?"
"Not currently. I believe that a missing reporter who has written about you would not shine so well on your good name."
"Right. I suppose we could invite her over...simply get her on our side?"
"As you wish, young master. I'll invite her over for tea?"
"Hmm. How about dinner, tonight?"
"As you wish."~~~
When the doorbell rang, Sebastian was unfortunately tied up, leaving Mey-Rin to answer it. By the time he got there, the poor maid was beside herself with laughter. Y/n stood in the doorway, holding a bottle of wine, dressed oddly appropriately. In contrast to the previous day, her hair was styled purposefully, she was wearing a corseted (F/c) dress, a women's coat, and dainty velvet gloves.
"Mey-Rin, please, let our guest in."
"Oh, certainly Mr. Sebastian!" She scurried to the side, allowing Y/n to step in. She made to shrug off her coat, but in an instant Sebastian was behind her."Allow me." He purred, smirking when she shivered a bit.
"Ah, what's this Ma'am?"
"Oh, just a bottle of wine for the house."
"Ooh thank you but Master Ciel is--"
"Too young? That's fine. It's not for him." She shot Mey-Rin a coy wink and unceremoniously passed the bottle before turning to smile at Sebastian."Well, the Young Master is expecting you. Come, come."
~~~
"And so, I was forced to drop all inquiries on the countess."
"Your publisher, I assume?"
"No, heavens no. I passed the story to someone else, as I received a rather compromising letter on her personal stationary in her handwriting."At this, Ciel let out a short [legendary] laugh, and he leaned back as she smiled to herself.
"Well, it would seem you're a rather well accomplished woman, Y/n. Do you play chess?"
"I have once or twice, maybe, but I've forgotten mostly."
"Would you care to learn?"~~~
Twenty minutes into an intense bout of chess, a large noise startled Ciel and Y/n from their concentration. That loud noise was followed by a handful of shouts, clangs, and crashes. As Ciel objected, Y/n lifted her skirts and dashed out of his study to catch the action.
"Just like a journalist." He muttered, but begrudgingly set to follow her.
He stopped near her on the balcony, which looked down at the ballroom. Sebastian and Claude were fighting rather intensely as Alois screamed 'encouragements' at them.
"Alois, did you have to come while I had a guest?"
"I came because you have a guest! If I cannot have you, Ciel, I'll have Y/n!"Ciel took a moment to glance at Y/n. "You've met?"
"He did seem quite taken with me after I interviewed him yesterday...I do believe his butler tried to smell my hair."
"Hmm. Alois," he called to the blond, "you can have her if you can beat her at chess."
"What? Don't you mean if I can beat you at chess?"
"No, I figure it's better she learn how to play for herself. It's good practice."
"Ciel," she chuckled nervously, "I've been absolutely terrible tonight."
"Practice."~~~
"I can't believe I...lost." Alois cried, absolutely heartbroken.
"Niether can I, your highness. She's called her Rook a 'tower bit' even though I've corrected her many times."
"Oh, is that what it's called?" Annette wondered innocently, causing Claude to grind his teeth."Bloody hell! Claude, she cheated. I don't like cheaters!"
"Oh, you don't like me?" Y/n pouted, only to have said Trancy perk up. "See Claude? She likes me better!"
"What makes you say that?"
"Well, she-"
"Enough." Ciel snapped. "Leave. You lost. Try again next time I have Y/n over for dinner."
"As you wish." With a swooping bow, Claude left, with a dissatisfied Alois trailing behind him.""So, there will be a next time?"
"Certainly. It's a miracle you won, against Alois, none the less. You need more training."
"Oh of course. Thank you for your time, Monsieur."
He gave her an odd look as she curtsied, and then nodded in response. "We will arrange our next dinner soon."
"I await with bated breath. Sebastian, be a dear--walk me out?"
"Of course, Madame. It would be my pleasure."
And that, loves, is how five men and one woman became taken with Y/n L/n over the course of two days.
