chapter 12: meeting the crew

(August 6, 1995)

As I am waking up on a Saturday morning to the ring of my phone, I realize its LaNisha calling me and since I haven't talked to her in a good minute I decide to pick it up. "What up baby?" I say in a sluggish tone because I am still pretty tired. That's when she replies "nothing I just wanted to know if you were still mad at me?" After she asked me that I instantly say no and tell her that I love her because I really didn't have any reason to be mad at her in the first place.

After we talk on the phone for a good thirty minutes I get a call on my other line, so I tell her I will talk to her later. When I answer it I realize it's my home girl Diamond. "What up ma?" I say, when I click over. That's when she replies "nothing, just chillin... bored as hell." Since she says she is bored I make the suggestion that she should come and chill with me and my boys today. Of course she says yes, so I tell her I will pick her up in about twenty minutes.

Once we hang up the phone I go and take a quick shower and get dressed. Once I get dressed I go hop in the truck and drive to Diamond's house. As I'm pulling up into her driveway she is already outside waiting on me. Once I stop the car she hops in the truck and we head to J-Rock's house. While we are driving I'm telling her about my friends and she can't wait to meet them. After I tell her about the homies we pull up to his house. When I stop the car we get out and walk to door. As I am knocking on the door J-Rock's little sister Mesha answers, and tells me they are in the backyard.

While we are walking to the backyard I see J-Rock and L.T getting high as hell. "What up my niggas?" I say to get their attention. That's when they turn around in their seats and once they notice who I am they get up and give me dap. After they dap me up they look at Diamond and ask who she is. That's when I look at them and introduces her to them as my friends, but of course they didn't believe me. Even though they didn't say it I knew what was going on in their heads by the expressions on their faces, so before they could jump to any conclusions I let them know straight up that there is nothing going on between us. Once we got that cleared up we all sit down roll up a blunt and just chill.

As time goes by and we are doing nothing but talking and smoking we hear the backyard gate slam. So we turn around to see who it is. When we turn around we see NaTonya, Tina, and LaNisha walking from around the corner. Once we realize it's them J-Rock, L.T, and I get up to go give our girls a hug. After I hug LaNisha I give her a kiss as we begin to walk over to the chairs to sit down. When we sit down there's a small silence for a moment, at least until Tina decides to break the silence and say "ok since LaNisha aint gone say nothing I am... Who is she?" After she asked who she was I look at Diamond and say "oh she's just my friend."

After I introduce Diamond to the girls NaTonya give LaNisha a little stare as if I were lying or something, but I decide to pay no attention to that. Next thing I know NaTonya has the nerve to ask Diamond how she met me as if it were her business. That's when Diamond respond "oh I met him at this corner store a few day ago and we chilled a few times." When she says that we have chilled a few times LaNisha gets a little upset, so she decides to ask where have we chilled. Now when she asked that particular question I got worried because the only places we have chilled at were either at her house or mine. After Diamond told her that all eyes were on me; as LaNisha turns toward me and says "oh really LoJarvis? Well I guess I hope you had fun... Um... How about me and you go talk for a minute out front." As we are walking toward the front I can tell she was mad at me by the way she is walking. "What the hell is really going on L.J? Why you have to be all up in her house? And why the hell I aint heard nothing about her? Are you trying to hide something from me or something?" she says as we are standing in front of the gate. After she asked me all of those questions I begin to shake my head because I couldn't believe we was having this conversation right now, but to respond to her question I say "look baby... I aint doing nothing with her. She is just a friend I can talk to sometimes and chill with... If you don't believe me oh well, but I promise I'm not lying to you!"

After I say that all she does is rolls her eyes and walks off, but she doesn't get far because I grab her by the wrist and tell her to never walk off from me. When I say that she gets even madder and next thing you know she slap me again. After she slapped me I was shocked because this was her second time hitting me and once again without me thinking before I act I slap her back. After I slap her, she instantly begins to cry. Her cries were so loud that everyone came to the front to see what happen. "Aye dawg what you do to her this time" LaTae asked me with a concerned look upon his face. Since I couldn't even believe I did it I didn't even respond back all I did was grab Diamond by the arm and head to the car.

The ride back to Diamonds house was so quiet you could hear the sound of my heart pounding in my chest. Once we arrived at her house I give her a hug as she gets out the car. When I see her walk in the house I drive off and head home. While I am driving home I can't help but think of LaNisha because I did hit her kind of hard. As I am pulling up to the house I see B.D outside waiting on me to pull up. "What up B.D?" I say in a concerned voice because I don't know what he could possibly want. Once I get face to face with him he asked me why LaNisha called him crying. That's when I knew I was busted, so I just tell him the whole truth. After I tell him what happened he puts his arm around my shoulders and tells me that we have to talk while we walk inside. "Now look here son I know I'm not your father, but I do look at you as you are my son so I'm going to talk to you like you're my son. You are a man and a real man does not hit any female. Now what would you do if your mother was still alive and some man was beating on her? You probably wouldn't like it. I know you love LaNisha and I know she loves you, but in order to keep her you have to be a real man. And you know Black Diamonds don't hit their females, so you need to do a little something to fix this mess that you got yoself in!"

After B.D is done talking to me I get a call from J-Rock on my cell. When I answer it he basically tells me what all happened after I left. When he tells me that she couldn't stop crying because she thought I didn't love her anymore, I begin to feel guilty. That's when I decide to hop in my car and head to her house. On my way to her house I call at least a thousand times, but there is no answer. As I am pulling up into her driveway I take deep breath and get out the car. When I walk up to the door I ring the bell, but there is no answer. That's when I begin to bang on the door, but there is still no answer.

As I begin to walk off I hear the door open from behind me, so I turn around. When I realize that it's Nine answering the door I ask him why is he at my girl's house. That's when he walks up to me and says "reclaiming what's really mine!" After he said that I get extremely mad and don't know what to think, so I push him out of my way and walk in the house calling LaNisha's name. When she comes from the back still crying I ask her what's going on. That's when she looks at me and says "L.J I can't be with someone who's going to hit me every time he gets mad..." After she says that I grab her hand and tell her how sorry I am. While I am trying to apologize Nine decides to put his two cents in and say "nigga she don't want you so stop begging! Why would she want a little ass boy when she could have a real ass man anyway!"

When he starts talking mess I begin to get madder and madder by the second and without thinking I just turn around and punch him dead in the jaw. After I see his body drop to the floor I look at her and say "if you want this nigga back its cool have him! I done already apologized and told you I was wrong and that I wouldn't do it again, but if you seriously want him over me yo ass is tripping! Just remember how yalls relationship was before yall got together... I'm out!"
