chapter 7: big business

(1 week later)

As I am lying down in my bed sound asleep B.D steps in my room and tells me to get ready for school. Once he leaves I get up out the bed and walk to the restroom to get cleaned up. After I clean myself up I go ahead and find me something to wear, so that I can get dressed. As I am walking down the stairs B.D is already walking to the limo, so I went ahead and followed him.

Once I got in the limo he looks at me and says “today is going to be a big day for you and your crew. We have a huge deal going on today and this is where yall can show your true colors and show me yall are some true little gangsters!” After he says that I nod my head and look out the window as we pull up to my school. Once the driver came to a complete stop I start to get out of the car, but before I could B.D grabs my wrist and reminds me not to forget to tell my friends.

When I get out the car B.D drives off and I see LaNisha walking down the street with her two friends NaTonya and Tina. As she approaches me I say what’s up to the three of them as I wrap my arms around my baby and give her a kiss. “Where’s LaTae and J-Rock at?” Tina and NaTonya ask me as I begin to walk with them inside the school. Right when we walk through the door we see them chillin by the lockers along with my other homie DeRay. As we are walking to the lockers to chill with them the bell rings, so I tell the girls to go on to class so I can talk to my boys for a second. Once they walk off I begin to tell them what’s supposed to be going on later on today. While I am telling them Nine walks by with his new girl and his little crew and just stares at us out for a good minute before he said anything. After about thirty seconds of them just staring at us, he finally opens his mouth and says “hey L.J I aint here to start no shit with you… I just want to call a truce cause we gone have to get along now, since we are in the same gang and all.” After he says that he puts his hand out and asked me to dap him up. I was skeptical about it for a second, but I go ahead and do it because it’s really no point in us having beef and we are all in the same clique. After we dap it up I go ahead and go to class since I am already a little late.

Once I get to my home room class I go and sit next to my baby LaNisha in the front of the class as we wait for first period to start. While we are waiting I lay my head on her shoulder to rest my eyes. While I am resting my eyes she begins to rub my hair and say “L.J how much do you really like me?” When she asked me that I instantly picked up my head and say “baby I don’t like you no more… I love you and there is nothing that can take you away from me I wanna be with you forever!” After I say that a big smile comes across her face and she gives me a kiss and says “awww baby I love you to!” When she said it back I knew we were meant to be from that day forward.

After about fifteen minutes went by the bell finally rings, so I grab LaNisha’s things and walk her to her class. On our way down the hall we are stopped by NaTonya and Tina standing at their lockers. “Hey L.J comes here for a second…” NaTonya says. As we are walking toward them they both reach into their pockets and pull out two folded pieces of paper and ask me to give them to L.T and J-Rock. After I grab the letters I hand LaNisha her things and give her a kiss on her cheek, so that I could head to my class as well.

As I begin to walk off I run into LaTae and J-Rock posted up by the soda machines. When I walk up to them I tell the NaTonya and Tina wrote them some letters as I hand it to them. After I give them their letters I give them both dap and head to my class, so that I wouldn’t be late. As I am walking into History class I decide to write LaNisha a letter that will basically say how I really feel about her. As I am finishing up the bell begins to ring, so I gather my things and head out. Walking out off my class DeRay, L.T, J-Rock, and Nine meet me as soon as I walk out the door. “Aye man B.D just called me and he said he on his way up here cause we need to get ready to handle to that big business, so we gotta wait for him outside...” Nine says. After he said that I say ok, before I go with them I went to go find LaNisha so that I could tell her I was about to leave and give her this letter I wrote her. As I am walking to her locker to tell her, she surprises me from behind and gives me a hug. After she hugs me I give her a kiss and say “hey baby, B.D is coming to pick me and the boys up, but I’ll see you when I get through with this thing he got us doing.” After I told her that I give her one more hug and the letter before I walk off.

As I am leaving the school B.D’s limo pulls up and we all get in. Once we are all in we begin to roll off and B.D grabs himself a glass of wine and stares at each of us for a minute. “Ok J-Rock, LaTae, DeRay, and LoJarvis this is going to be your first time going out for a big job like this so it might be a little rough at first, but Nine will show you the ropes. Well anyway let me tell you what’s going on… This gang on the west side of town called the Latin Kings owes us some money. They owe us $100,000.00 and tonight they will be giving us half in cash and the other half in coke. Now what I need yall to do is first get strapped up at the house because you never know how things may turn out. Then I’m gone leave yall the keys to one of my unmarked cars, so yall can put everything in there. The meeting place is this abandoned warehouse off of 33rd street at nine o’clock. I picked yall up early so that yall could get ready and set up. I’m about to drop yall off at my house and yall leave when it’s time. Good luck!”

As we are pulling up in his driveway he gives me the keys and tells me to take them to the gun room. After he says that his driver drives off and we head inside. As we are walking in the door, we automatically run to the gun room to pick out our guns. Once we reach the gun room we open the door and when we see all of the choices we couldn’t believe our eyes. All we could do is run in and start picking out stuff for to take with us. Once we were through we go ahead and load up the car so we wouldn’t have to worry about it later. As soon as we got through we go into the den to watch television while we had a little snack.

As time goes by we gradually fall asleep, but were awakened around eight o’ clock by the sound of the alarm clock. Once we all realize what time it is, we go ahead and go to the car, and since B.D. gave me the keys I decided to drive. Once everyone is in I go ahead and take off. Thirty minutes goes by and we finally arrive at the warehouse on 33rd street. As we pull up we see three cars out front, so I go ahead and tell the boys to get strapped just in case they try to pull something funny. Once everyone is strapped we get out the car and go inside. As we are walking inside, Mr. Valdez, the leader of the Latin Kings looks at us and says, “ Hold up hold up, if I would’ve know that Billy Diamond was sending kids I would’ve sent my boys!” After he said that, Nine got a little upset so he points his gun at Mr. Valdez and says, “Kids? Nigga I don’t see no kids here, but if something is wrong with your eyes I can sure as hell fix them for you!”

When I said that it didn’t even male Mr. Valdez mad. All he did was smile and snap his fingers. After his snap his fingers, one of his boys walks up to us and brings us two briefcases. When he set them down we picked them up and checked them for a quick second. Once we saw that everything was there, we picked them up and took them to the car. As we are leaving Nine’s lights a blunt as we are getting in the car. While I’m driving I pull up to a stop light, with the car filled with smoke and everyone happy for our success it instantly turns to the worse when a police car pulls up alongside of us. While I tried to avoid them by not looking at them I just turned left to get away. “What’s going on? What are you turning for?” Nine asked. That’s when I say, “Man nigga the cops were right by us!”  When I said that, they hurried up and threw the blunt and straightened up. All of a sudden we see flashing lights and hear siren behind us, so I put petal to the metal and sped off.

While we are going crazy trying to get home with about five cops following us, I end up losing control of the car about five blocks from the house and crash into a tree. As soon as we hit the tree all five police cars surrounded us, and with their guns pointed towards us awaiting any sudden movement. One cop gets on the megaphone and says, “Don’t move we have you surrounded and help is on the way.” When he said that I began to look around and seeing nothing but flashing lights and the front the car smashed in. and from that point on I knew that it was all over for us. About five minutes go by and the ambulance finally arrives. While they are putting us on the stretcher a police officer looks at us and says, “As soon as yall are feeling better, it’s off to juvie with yall for a good minute!”
