chapter 19: a new life style (1 year later)

"Wake up everybody and don't make me say it twice." the guard says, as he wakes everyone up by banging his night stick on the bars of all the cells. As he is approaching my cell I am already awake. When I rise from my bed I look around from one plain white wall to the next and shake my head. As I am looking around at my surroundings I say to myself "damn I have been in here for a year now and I'm still not use to this shit! I gotta talk to B.D as soon as possible about this because it's just not working for me. I mean damn we wake up every morning before the sun rises around six thirty and I just can't take that shit no more!"

Once we all finish getting dressed, we line up outside our cells for a head count. After we are through counting we all head to breakfast in a single file line as if we are still in elementary school. As we are walking into the cafeteria I hear a voice call my name from behind me as I am walking to a line to get in. When I hear them call me a second time, I turn around and see a group of niggas sitting at this table. "Aren't you a Black Diamond my nigga?" one of them says. After he asked that I look at all of them and ask "who wants to know?" When I said that with somewhat of an attitude while walking toward them, this big dude stands up and says "look her little nigga don't get yo panties in a bunch... I was just asking a question... I heard a lot about you young blood and wanted to meet you, so how old is you?" After he asked how old I was I go ahead and ell him nineteen; but before I could even get a question out to ask him how he knows me or who he is a guard comes and tells me I have a visitor and I need to come with him.

As we are walking down to the visiting room, the first person I see is my baby LaNisha. When the guard opened the door she runs to me jumps in my arms and gives me a hug and a kiss. Once she stops hugging me I look at her and say "damn girl you looking good! You just don't know how much I have missed you babe!" After I say that she gives me another kiss and we start to walk to the table. As we are walking to the table I see my nigga B.D, so I give him a hug and a hand shake.

After we all get reacquainted we all sit down and as we are sitting down I grab my baby's hand and asked them why they are here. That's when B.D says "L.J I got some extremely good news so brace yourself son and listen up... Your lawyer and I have talked to the judge that sentenced you and the officers that arrested you, and we came to find out that the arresting officers didn't read you your rights and they didn't have a search warrant... So instead of me pulling 200 grand out of my pocket to get you out they are going to drop all the charges and you will be released first thing tomorrow morning!"

When B.D told me that I was being released I couldn't believe my ears. Before it actually registered that I was being released I thought I was dreaming! "Are you freaking serious? I can leave tomorrow?" I ask with amazement in my voice. "I am so for real, you are getting out tomorrow!" B.D responds with a smile upon his face. That's when I look at my baby and say "oh hell yeah do you hear this? I'm coming home baby! I'm actually going to be there for your nineteenth birthday!" After I said that LaNisha looks at me smiling from ear to ear and begins to cry tears of joy. That's when I give her a hug and look at B.D and just begin to thank him for everything he has done for me. While I am thanking him he places his hand on my head and says "nigga you are like a son to me... I knew you when you were half the size you are now, so you know I can't let my son stay up in this hell hole!"

While we are celebrating a little early for tomorrow the guard walks in and says "ok... Ok... Break up all of this lovey dovey shit, time is up. I don't give a damn if you get out tomorrow or not... You're still under my watch so come on boy!" Once he grabs my arm I go ahead and give my girl one last kiss and tell her that I will see her tomorrow. After I tell her that he walks me back to my cell and this night I slept real peaceful because I knew I was getting out tomorrow.
