Okay, let's do this. Inuyasha is an anime about a girl named Higurashi Kagome, who fells in a well and ends up 500 or so years in the past, where she meets a half-demon named Inu Yasha. She finds out that she posseses an important jewel that can give demons more power. When she accidentally shatters the jewel, the parts are spread all over Japan, giving demons more power. In order to find them, she asks Inu yasha for help, since he is one of the only people powerfull enough to carry around and protect the jewelshards. However, Inu Yasha also wants to collect the shards for his own profit; he wants to become a full demon.
I haven't seen that much of this anime yet; I'm at episode 15 from 167 or so. I don't think I'll watch it again soon though. There are just so many episodes! And from what I've seen, it isn't worth watching it all. (Sorry jazcat104, I know it's your favorite anime, that's fine; it's just not mine.)
First of all; the story progresses fairly slowly. They take two or more episodes to defeat an enemie, which is a lot of time compared too how much time they take to properly introduce the characters. Also, they start introducing random new characters without any explanation or backstory. Like Inu Yasha's brother and mother. Their backstory's and tropes would have worked great later in the series when we knew more about Inu Yasha. I think Fairy tail does this better by layering it's tropes and backstorys. On the other hand; he wouldn't have his awsome sword if it wasn't for the battle with his brother.
Second of all; I really don't like the main character Kagome. She's playing the demsel in destress/ innocent little girl way too often. I don't know if this changes throughout the serie, 'cause as I said; I haven't watched a lot of it. You've got to make your main character loveable guys! I like Inu Yasha better, although he befriends Kagome way too fast. I'm willing to overlook it, because they almost immediatly explain why this is. I think the little fox character is great; although a little annoying. The demons and creatures are also amazing. Don't worry about it. I often have that I hate the main characters and love the villains. Wooooh team villain!
Thirdly, the art style. The artstyle is pretty neat. It looks old, but that's okay, since this is a fairly old anime. As I said before; I love the creatures. It's fine that the promise is pretty simple and common; things don't always have to be complicated. In this case it's kind of like a monster of the week promise; every episode they fight a new demon. Nothing wrong with that. I hope that this anime will use more tropes, like the contest or mystery trope, because it's important to have variation in your anime. Especially if the anime has a lot of episodes. This keeps your watchers from getting bored. I don't know if this will work out though, since this takes place in the past, which makes it hard to use a lot of them.
Lastly, the dubb was terrible. The lip-sync was not very good and the sentences weren't fluent at all. I don't know if that was intentionally, but I didn't like it at all. I don't know if the sub is better, but I'm not even going to try that. I just can't stand Japanese voices. (No offense Japan.) That is why I haven't watched Fairy tail for a while.
I have seen worse anime and I've definitely seen better. It wasn't that bad, buuuuuuttttt..... I didn't like it. Sorry jazcat104, this is just my stupid opinion. I've just realised that Inuyasha is kinda like fairy tail, but far, far worse. I suggest you watch that instead.
Captain Marit out!
