From the first character trailer it is clear that most of the characters and grimm are based of fairytales. But who are they exactly based on? That is what we're going to speculate about today.
First of all, they are just losely based on fairytales with other influences as well, so these are just my own speculations. No-one says there right or wrong.
Let us start with the obvious one; ruby. Ruby is obviously based on red ridinghood. It just shines from her charactertrailer, where she is only Fighting beowolves and because she always wheres her hood. Now, these beowolves have more than one influence. They are based on the wolf in little red ridinghood, but also on werewolves since it is stated at the end of season 3 that ruby has silver Eyes that can stop grimm. A clear reference to werewolves who can only be killed with silver it seems. One interesting fact by the way; ruby wears a cross on her belt; a symbol that is ment to protect you from evil. Crow wears one too, but on his neck.
Than the next one; yang. Yang is a crossinfluence as well. As her Mother raven represents ying and she yang. I think that while yang sometimes loses control and goes mad, we'll see later in the series that her Mother is quite the opposite. Raven is stated to have "a way of working that Crow Doesn't like," which probably means that she is pretty agressive and won't hesitate to Kill. I think that she' ll sometimes get like yang and that her Eyes will turn from red to purple then.
Next to that, yang is probably also based on rapunsel, since the rollerskategirl in season 3 jokes that she has hairextensions, but yang answers that she Doesn't have any. Also, she gets extremely mad when someone ruins her hair.
Weiss seems to be another easy one. It is stated several times in the show that she is an Ice Queen and she acts often like one. However I'm not sure if this is fully true, since Crow calls her sister the real Ice Queen and her just an "Ice princess". I would like to see her based of the swanprincess; formed into something she Doesn't want to be by her father, but transforming into a princess once she has found out who and what she really wants to be.
Lastly from team rwby, we have blake. She's a tough one to crack. At first she looks like the Puss in boots type with her catears, but when you look at her in the big picture, she is someone entirely else. Blake had fallen in love with Adam taurus who I think resembles the beast from Belle and the beast. In that case Blake would be Belle; a perfect match with her character. Blake is an introvert, loves books and tries to see the best in people, despite her trust being shattered numerous times.
