I really enjoyed blue exorcist to be honest. Rin is just your average anime boy, who gets in trouble every episode and looks suspiciously like Kirito from SAO. The thing is; he and his younger twin brother Yukio are sons of satan and have a lot of enemies who either want to kill them or use them for their own benefit. Rin doesn't know he's a demon, but when he begins to see demons too, his father dies protecting him and sends him to the school for exorcists, so he can learn to use his demonabilities for the good.

A lot of the demons and background/supporting characters were at least different enough to seperate them from the others and they all got their little querks and problems which the show exploits and explains well. Some of them are a bit stereotypical, but don't really on that one trade. Rin himself got some "Kirito" problems going on, but almost never too much to bother me. Even most of the villains had good reasons as to why they did what they did. The only letdown was Satan to be honest. His expositioning felt way to crammed inbetween the epic fightscenes. Also, what is up with that weird swordsguy? Honestly, he's a pain in the butt, but I guess it is alright since he is supposed to be like that.

The story telling was also pretty neat. It wasn't as well paced everywhere as it could have been, (the flashbacks to their Mother felt a bit rushed) but whatever. It had some funny side stories while also adding to the overall plot with every episode and expanding the world and rules of that world further.

The animation was okay as far as I could see with magnificent battles and atmospheric backgrounds. The character designs were normal, but still original enough I guess.

I watched this in Japanese and I think that I'm finally getting used to those voices or this wasn't as bad. (No offense Japan, your language is just very different from Dutch and English.)

Finally, I'd like to give this show some credit for it's world building and how each character reacts different to it's rules. I'd like to think that each priest in our world is actually a skilled warrior who is trained to fight demons too. The only problem I have with this is; why are normal people so oblivious? Yes, you can only see demons with a spirit wound yada yada yada, but they must have seen the fight with blackie right? Or all the demons at the end?

Although this show has some minor flaws, it was very nice to watch. The characters weren't as blend as in other shows and the story was great. The animation didn't really have an original style but was polished and the fights were amazing.

Maybe I have convinced you to watch this anime and maybe not, but I hope that you enjoyed this review either way.

P.S. Mephisto is definetly the best character.

P.P.S. if you watch it too, you should check out the specials they made for the show.
